Hi, does anyone know anymore about the history of the following 3200GT on PH.

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/4099060.htm

From the dealer all I have is that it received a new (2nd hand) engine at 48k from VERDI. The new/2nd hand engine had £12k already on the clock? They've indicated they are flexible on price but I'd certainly like to have a better idea of the history before getting an independent inspection.

Thanks in advance.

The engine change was done by Verdi in 2008 is there something specific on Google I should be looking for?

Verdi had a very good reputation and did great work but just run into trouble in the climate we have been in.............They were respected for years but then hit very bad times as lots did at the time.

This car has got to be worth a look if only juet to go and see their other stock..........SuperVettura are the official representative for Koenigsegg and BAC Mono in the UK.

Wise words.

I am just helping the guy make an informed decision - he can make what he likes of what he finds on google but the reality is that there has been a lot of noise on the subject. Best he knows one way or the other.

Would certainly warrant a look, 2001 car, sports exhaust, reasonable price, plus 3 months warranty. Engine change probably due to the dreaded endfloat,( like mine was,) would check when it needs chains, and have the float measured, just to be safe. Looks nice though. Personally Verdi issue wouldn't bother me from that era.

Thanks for the comments. The following info I got from the owner at the time of the engine change, luckily he'd not changed his mobile number since the engine change and that was on the invoice. if I don't buy it hope someone else finds this information useful. The engine blew (no more details than that) but not an end float problem. Verdi sourced a 2nd hand engine which they claim had only 12k on it - but the owner saw no evidence of that. After the engine had be replaced one of the turbos blew but Verdi claimed it was not related. Owners experience of Verdi not wholly positive, he called them cowboys, but when he sold the car and year later it was running well and prior to the engine blowing he'd had no major issues in 4-5 years of owning it.

The registration of the car was/is? FD51 JHJ.

Good info there...not knowing what miles are on the engine would put me off a little I think...

A question to ask yourself maybe is how much more you have to pay for a fsh car with confirmed mileage. Is this car cheap enough to risk it?

In fact... In light of reading some other threads about cheap maseratis scaring people off, I've upped my price to a better price as well as uploaded a whole lot of new photos. Driving it on the dual carraigeway last night and hearing that exhaust note at 5500 revs in third gear also contributed to the price hike!!

That and the fact that Greypaul will do a Chains service for £1200 means that I am underselling this fantastic car for a stupid price. In light of that fact that you know my original price, I'm open to offers...

I'd prefer to buy via dealer but given what I found out about this car I'm passing on it anyway. They were indicating that they would do £9k so similar.

That's an interesting viewpoint... I could sell my car to a dealer for £8k and they'll then sell it on to you for £11k. It's the same car, and you'd get no more guarantees from a dealer than you could from me - you could buy your own warranty for the car if it worries you that much. Incidentally, I bought mine from a dealer and the clutch went after a month (it was due anyway). Did the dealer want to know about it? Of course not! He told me to sling my hook...

As long as you've had an inspection done on the car, it doesn't matter if it's from a dealer or private. You're seriously limiting your options and paying a premium for the pleasure.
