A lumpy running 456 is a very brave shout. Not much change from £20k for an engine rebuild. And if it was something relatively small or easy or cheap to fix, it would have been fixed and the car auctioned for more like £40 - £50k. I'd say the owner and his specialist are fully aware of the issue and have decided its not worth getting further or deeper involved.

Totally agree. The fact it "has not run much for last two years" is a concern. Add in the fact it has been services and fettled a little in this time and still has a fault and you would need to be very brave.

But being a Fezza some plum will buy it.

That 222 SR is a fairly well known car, it was restored about 8 years ago at great expense, I'm sure I saw an article on it somewhere at the time, might have been in the Trident Magazine. It had an extensive body and interior restoration as well as a lot of engine work. Its been up for sale several times over the last few years but doesn't seem to have sold, most recently it was on Ebay a few times in the last year or so at something crazy like £28k. I don't know of its current condition as I haven't seen it for many years but it certainly used to be very nice.

The 222 SR is a fairly rare car, 210 produced I believe, and that one is the only RHD car that I know of in the UK (there are a couple of LHD Japanese imports for sale at the moment too). Interestingly the SR stands for Sospensione Regolabile - Adjustable Suspension. A curious model name as the electronic suspension was actually a cost option so there are some SRs that don't have it, kind of ironic given the model name. The sister model, the 222 4v had the electronic suspension as standard.

Brave man or fool ?

The rear shocks need rebuilding

Torque tube bearings Need changing

Failed mot on emissions - this is the issue - either valve guides or plugs leads sensors etc
Either 4 figures to repair or 5 !

If you get it cheap enough I reckon it is worth a go

I thought it seemed familiar, I recall seeing it on eBay and thinking £28k was a little steep. Looks a good car though, the colour really suits it.

On a related note, there's been a Racing for sale on eBay for a few months now. Looks in good order, in fact it looks fairly menacing in black, it's up for £25k. I dare say it's likely to be the only one in the country.

The Racing is seen as the holy grail of Biturbos, I suppose its the Biturbo equivalent of the Ghibli Cup. Prices are starting to go crazy in Europe, i've seen them for sale for up to 50000 euros but 25-30k euros seems the norm. That black car isn't the only one in the UK, I know of another black car and also red one, but rare nonetheless.

I went !

I missed the Maserati going through.

There was rust on the rear wheel arches where it meets the sill, but other than that it looked good.

Pistonheads suggested the 456 had valve issues and that the owner had accepted an offer of £20k but was persuaded to leave it in the auction.

I was ready with £25k for the 456, it was jump started but no black smoke out the exhaust. I moved to the front with my son who was all excited, then the auctioneer said.......

We have a phone bid of £31 !!!! wtf ?!!

It eventually made £36k, It sold last year for £38k when it worked, it now doesn't has no mot and it makes £36k
