I got one of the cam covers off today, re coated it and the black cover so now just waiting for the stainless cap screws to arrive. It should start to look rather sharp when it goes back together. It probably deserves a bit of tlc! I had a good look at the top end and the cam lobes, despite 70,000 hard miles, are completely unmarked.

My prep consists of: -

20" New wheels fitted with good rubber
Car being Valeted the week before.

3 Reclining chairs ordered, just hope the b@stards go in the boot: -

And I am hoping that is it apart from making sure I have continental AA cover and made sure my insurance covers me, must do that next week.

Was wondering if they will fit in your boot.

They'll never fit in the boot of the GT.

I went to visit my car yesterday. I went into the build rooms and had a tour of all the various precision engineered parts that are going into my engine.

Basically anything that moves has been lightend and balanced. Seriously impressive; to the point that when he showed me the con rods, for a start it was impossible to see the join between the parts that wrap around the crank, and secondly he pointed out that one of the 4 con rods wasn't shiny at the gudgeon pin end, and then explained that was the lightest one and so the others were polished to the point they were the same weight.

That was yesterday afternoon, this afternoon the engine is part built. It will be close, but I'm assured it will be ready in time!

And Dem, to answer your question from before; it will be run in on the rollers when it's mapped and so it'll be good for 9,000 rpm from the moment I collect it!

It sounds like the con rods were made in one piece and then cracked across the journal, as a result you can't see the join.

I'm bringing one of these this year. Much smaller and easier to carry than a camping chair and super comfy. Use it often when camping or just in the garden.

I reckon all our lot should each bring a big rocket which we launch all at once during our first night shenanigans. That'll show the Mayor that we don't need cars to make noise! :)
