2016 QP6 - Tyres - Thoughts/Advice?

I've just got around to giving all four tyres a more thorough check and being a newbie both on here, and with the above brand, I wondered if anyone had any thoughts and advice re: the current status of what I have on the car?

Fronts - Michelin Pilot Sport 4S - 245/40 ZR 20" 99Y (mid 2022s). All with roughly 6.5mm on them across inners, middles and outers.

Rears - Michelin Pilot Sport 3 - 285/35 ZR 20" 104Y (mid 2021s). All with roughly 4mm on them across inners, middles and outers.

I'm not a speed merchant, rarely have rear seat passengers, and fairly mindful winter is coming.

Anything jumping out as incorrect or odd here please?

I wouldnt be worried about that. Michelin regarded as one of the better if not the best tyre brands

Depending on where you live, your use of the car etc you could consider some winter tyres for the winter. I have them put on mine (Ghibli) every winter and they are fantastic

Yes, people on here mostly love the Michelin Sports and hate Pirelli Pzeros. I also liked the Goodyear Eagle F1s I had for a while.

I've been a big fan of winter tyres for about 15 years now. For my QPV, I really like Michelin Alpins (if you can find them) or, surprisingly, Pirelli Sottozeros. Unless you use up a whole set every season, it's much better to get a set of winter wheels, so you are not constantly ripping the rubber off the rims to swap them over.

Ye I tried looking for Ghibli wheels but they were so expensive I just change them

Another decent summer brand which I have recently fitted are the Continental SP7s. Come out as good or even better than the Michelins in tests, and more reasonably priced. They handle very will, not sure on longevity yet though

.. ..

The wheels don't seem so expensive when your new tyre guy won't put your old winters back on in the autumn because the old tyre guy damaged them so much getting them off in the spring.

I suppose it depends on where you live, if’s it’s the southern half of the uk you don’t need winters. The Michelin pilot sport 4s is the best bar none and far superior to the ps3 you have on the rears. If it were me I would just change the rears to Ps4s.

Good comparison here
The continentals shade it in that test agreed but in real world conditions it’s the Michelin especially on perceived comfort as it’s slightly softer and better suited to lower temperatures (which is the big problem with Pirelli) also I would like the same tyres on both axles. Although the ps4s has been around for a while it’s still very good. The new replacement Pilot sport S5 (not ps5s) will be available in the near future.

The PS4 is certainly a lot better at low temps than the P Zero, and thus far, are wearing better.

I had a set (...and the very last set!) of Pirelli somethings on a Mk2 XR2 back in the day. Any reasonable corner taken in the wet/damp, at an angle of anything more than about 20 degrees, it felt like you were going to just slide off the side of the road. It was like driving on ice.
I know things have moved on a bit, but never again.

Pilot sport 4S is a UUHP tyre
Pilot sport 4 is not it just UHP so continental 7 is an upgrade

Meh. I liked the Pirelli tyres on my Ghibli. I did cycle through them pretty quickly though, a full set and an additional pair of rears pretty much yearly, and was used to what they gave me. The only problem with them was below about 6C you needed to drive very very carefully until they got up to temperature.

That said, either the Pilot Sports or Contis are decent tyres too. Price wise they all seemed similar and the money back offer via the Maserati Club membership tipped the cost in favour of Pirelli for me.

Think I'm a minority voice.
I've always had Pirelli on my italian cars, they always cornered like rails, the integrale loved it.

They wear quick but I like the confidence in corners. My QP6 have them
