Now that I like Frank.....Is it the one that has been for sale before though that had some bad rust way back on the sills that had been put right.......Doesn't red suit the Ghibli though....and its manual.

This one has been on and off sale for a over a year - I assume the last owner only had it a few months. I seem to recall someone mentioning rust on the bulkhead, which is far harder and more expensive to fix than rusty sills. But I've not seen the car, and my info could be wrong. Even though the mileage is quite high, if it is in good nick it would be a nice keeper for someone only looking for an occasional summer weekend toy. And fantastic in red/crema.

This same garage had this Ghibli (parked in the same place in fact) when I was looking for an AC before I bought mine some months ago. Apparently it had been bought by a servicing member of the forces who had put a deposit down and was going to collect the car when he returned in a few weeks, so maybe the sale fell through? It was previously owned by the same guy who had the AC (which also had a bit of rust) and he was thinning out his collection. On the surface of it, the Ghibli looked nice for the age but that rust would need to be attended to for sure.

I love it!!!! Tried to contact them today but no joy. Is there a thread on the car as I cannot find it on search?

Am sure not too many Ghibli threads.......must be pretty obvious, or who put it up last time?

I spoke to the garage selling it today, nice chap. Last had the cambelt change in 2010 although only 1k of miles since then, so chambelt and major service should be factored into the price. Im sure lots of other litle things need doing and no mention of rust.

Now I could be wrong but I think Dickyb will now more about this car as I think it was himself that sent me the rust pictures.....

Yes that was me!

I looked at buying this car a few years ago and contacted the owner before the previous one. He was pretty honest about everything and sent me some scans of the photos taken when the car was repaired. It was pretty rusty but the repairs look fairly solid although not especially neat. I can't vouch for how well they will have lasted or if there are any other issues lurking but being an old Italian car its fairly likely.

As Ewan says, the higher mileage is nothing to worry about, these cars can do high miles if looked after and I think the maintenance on this one has been pretty good. McGraths certainly know it so worth speaking to Andy about it if interested.

I would be inclined to investigate the bodywork very thoroughly before proceeding though, particularly under the sill covers and the floors. Don't let that put you off, it may be fine but you just need to be careful. The bulkhead area wasn't mentioned on this one but its worth checking very carefully, particularly on a car that has had rust issues in the past. This is a dash out and probably engine out repair, doable but expensive.

Here are the pics sorry they're a little fuzzy, they were scanned from prints:

Assuming the rust was sorted, surely it now deserves serious consideration. Got to be worth £7k or so of someone's money.

:) yep, I'm a proper Ghibli anorak!

Ewan is right, assuming its still all ok, if you could get it for £7k it would be a lot of car for the money. Careful investigation needed though...

I would be interested at 6500...maybe 7000......Just the perfect colour combination for a Ghibli...

Go on then Andy. Go and see it, and put a bid in. You've nothing to lose and a lovely red Maserati to gain. It would be a brave dealer to turn down £7k as buyers for old Ghiblis don't grow on trees.

As the car is only about 20 miles from McGrath Maserati it would be worth getting a full inspection. If the rust has been cut out and repaired properly there could be a bargain to be had. Great colour combination. It may be that the reason that this car is doing the rounds is that we, as the doyens of all things Maserati, are killing off interest due to previous rust problems which may no longer exist.

Being pedantic. But, it's less than ten miles from McGraths. It was my interest in buying a Ghibli that got me into Maserati ownership. I still haven't scratched that itch.

Someone needs to check it out. It would good to decide once and for all if this individual car is any good. Fingers crossed that it is, as good ones are rare and values will only go up for the examples worth saving.
