Chaps,
I may be servicing the above car for a customer in near future and just thought I'd ask if there are any particular issues to pay attention to during the job? I realise it's the naturally aspirated 4200 internal timing chain engine so nil cambelt to consider.

Any info appreciated in advance. :excellent:

First thing would be to scan all the ECUs for errors - the Florence system fitted to the early QPV is terrible for generating electrical faults. Most customers also want a clutch reading.

Access to the filter is awkward and you'll need to remove a heat shield (I use a Snap On ASG187B to prise the clips off). Don't forget to torque the filter to 30Nm as you don't want it spinning off.

I would pressure test the coolant system.

Check the engine mounts (a pig of a job to replace).

Don't forget to reset the service record in the NQS.

I'll think of more stuff so will check back in later...

Cheers Voicey,
I take it an OBD2 reader is no go for QP codes? What type of reader is required? Are they noted for cooling system issues ie leaks? Can service record reset be done manually or is diagnostic hook up required?

I think you might be in for a bit of a shock, lets just say it's cheaper to buy a good QP than the diagnostic system to service it

A generic code reader will read the engine ECU and will be better than nothing but you really want to be in the body computer on one of these.

Re - the cooling system. The coolant tank for the later cars is currently on a global back order which should tell you all you need to know!

Thanks, yes I have a generic code reader that does my 3200.........we'll wait and see how this car is and go from there. So..........sounds like header tanks have issues, I'll be checking that. Do they deteriorate and crack with age or system pressure issues?????? My 3200 occasionally spits a little out of header tank cap breather apparently common with this engine due to tank location height! Don't know about the sludge build up in the tank though.........is this a 3200 trait also?

My general rule is the later the car, the more chance of cooling system problems. I'm sure your customers QP will be fine but I pressure test every cooling system.

Also, if you ever have the bell housing off take a careful look at the coolant pipe behind the engine.
