The Last Post - boot release fix

Either ! The junction box is a kind of splitter joined by a "strip of copper" ? You can connect 12v positive to either side of those connectors. When I checked (with the dud battery) it was reading 10 volts at either point. I guess a battery cell had gone down. I was looking for the back of...

The Last Post - boot release fix

Found another way to access the boot when the battery is dead..............noticed my battery was getting weak, bought a new one and gave it a full charge. A few days later, tried the boot release button, absolutely nothing left in the battery. That's OK, I'll use the key to operate the manual...

    My 4200GT for sale

Considering selling my lovely motor. MoT until October 2015, 58k miles full service history (including clutch at 39k), manual gearbox, heated seats etc etc. More likely to make contact with an enthusiast or serious buyer here. I'm away until January but if anyone is interested I could meet up...

    New unwanted noise

minor update Oil filter removed (eventually). No signs of metallic particles. New oil in and new filter fitted. I need a test drive with someone driving so I can get in the back and see which side the noise is loudest.....my guess is the left. Will need to dismantle the strut assembly to get...

    New unwanted noise

Noise progress Agree that it might not be feelable or hearable - without any load on wheels. As an elimination exercise (and it's nearly due) I've drained the gearbox oil and found no metal debris on the magnetic drain plug. Good news ! Bad news...........I thought it wise to remove, check and...

    New unwanted noise

Maybe not a wheel bearing After getting a full crawl under the car and swinging about on the wheels I'm not convinced that there is a wheel bearing problem. Couldn't feel the "looseness" I thought I'd found. There is a slight noise but nothing like it was when I was "focused" on it during the...

    New unwanted noise

Wheel bearing ? Preliminary skirmish today with 2 trolley jacks suggests that there is some play on the rear nearside wheel bearing. Will dismantle and check it out and produce a "how to" for the records. Might be useful for others in the forum.

    New unwanted noise

No.........don't think so No don't think so............It's only when the wheels are rotating at speed. So methinks that it's the wheel bearing, the differential bearings, drive shaft or torque tube shaft. I've put it in neutral at 60mph downhill and de-clutched, noise doesn't change.

    New unwanted noise

Car is a 4200 manual. Had a run to Germany last week. Cruising at 80-100mph (not in the UK !) there was a very smooth transmission hum. Quite normal. Gradually, (over a 1000 miles or so) at about 40-60 mph I became aware of a droning and slight increase in vibration. I monitored the tone...

    Unrelated problems.....?

Dazed, confused but delighted Pulled fuse 41, 44, 29 - no change. Removed the mirror controller - no faults found. Pulled every fuse there is in the foot well and checked each one. I was accompanied by various beeps, clicks and the alarm going off. Found no faults. Tried the seat and it now...

    Unrelated problems.....?

The mirrors (used to !) adjust automatically when reverse was selected to give a better view of the rear "corners". Swapped the relays C and D (page 163 of original manual) but no different. The mirrors won't adjust by moving the central control either. Seat heating still operates on...

    Unrelated problems.....?

I have a 4200 with a manual gearbox.......during yesterdays drive the mirrors stopped adjusting to the "reversing" position, although there was the usual "beep" in the car when reverse was selected. There is power to the mirrors, as they fold when selected but the mirror (left and right) do not...
