It's his ******* money. Surely he can spend it as and when he likes

C

Agreed. For those of us not rolling in dosh a weekend car at upwards of £30k has to tick the desirability boxes in terms of model/colour/trim/spec/history/mileage as well as cost. Why compromise unless the car is needed as a daily driver. I did that with my last weekend toy and never fell in love with it as a result. Part of the pleasure is the search and sharing thoughts with fellow forum members.

Agree. I can empathise with Dave as I keep swinging between 6 choices, even when I am ready to commit. Hats off to Adam - he knew what he wanted and went for it.

I would like the advice of Forum members - but I know what each one would say!

Dealerships need to get their fingers out and organise financial packages for a '4 car year' - so you can rotate every 3 months.

Most TVR soft tops don't make you look like a c0ck....until you stack it that is.

New Griffith has got to be worth a look hasn't it?

Must have been an off day Ewan as ever Vantage I've been lucky enough to go in or look at I've the build quality was top notch. Always felt really solidly built compared to some of the males I've owned like TVR, Lotus, Maserati.....but I've not owned one so can only go on the quick drives and seeing them in showrooms so may be different if I owned one for a number of years.

I think you have rose tinted glasses on there Andy. The Vantage I looked at before I bought my 4200 was shocking.
Put me off Aston’s. That and the claustrophobia.

I've onlyseen one that I thought was ropey and that was a 2006 car. And if you look at like for like...Never seen one where the leather has bubbled off the steering wheel yet seen a number of 2006 4200's with that. Depends what you are comparing with...But then the 4200 was 18k and the Aston 35k so maybe not a true comparison....But yes maybe I do have rose tinted glasses for the marque.....Used to be that way for Maserati.....but with the current range my enthusiasm has wavered a tad. Hope the future brings something more exciting than a 4x4 so I can feel that way again.

Bit too much Andy, I'm more 50 with the B & R mod, and a fare chunk hidden from swmbo. Got to admit I hi k the man maths professionals wouldn't impressed with my ability to divert cash to car fund.

Two manual N400's on Autotrader Dave 43k...5700 for the BM so under the 50k. I think that would give 436 bhp which is more than the N430's.

That’s because you’re about 14 feet tall and the same wide you bloody great lump! Christ, you’d be cramped in the back of an artic!

The ones I’ve looked at have been solid, but those have all been less than 4 or so years old. Not sure if earlier ones were a bit dodgier, but it’s not a issue I’ve seen commented on in forums. From personal experience of my GTS, regular resticking of peeling faux leather is a summer weekend maintenance essential. If Astons are sometimes lacking in build quality, they certainly don’t have the monopoly on it!

I thought Aston’s were reknowned for their hand made build
Quality. Have to say when i got in the vanquish I literally couldn’t believe how many cows must have been slaughtered
To adorn the interior. It felt too decadent and I felt guilty for being in it.
As Adam says- if age is the issue I am sure it’s the same on other cars.
Having said that one of my best friends has a 2004 4200 and it’s still immaculate - I still remember being blown away by that machine before I could afford a ‘real car’.

Would you go 4.7 sport shift or 4.3 Manual?

A dilemma I am looking at, pretty sure I want a manual this time but 4.7 is just a stretch on my budget a bit at the moment. Time will tell and the option of a year with a Cayman S might satisfy the itch for the moment.

Same, as only a weekend car I think a manual would be good again....
I’m going to test both when I get back.....

In the same way I wouldn't buy a 4.2 GT Maser given the availability (at not much more) of the 4.7 version, I'd not buy a 4.3 Aston. I've always found both the 4.2 GT and the 4.3 Vantage underwhelming. To properly enjoy either car to the full you need the bigger engined version.

Tend to agree Ewan...just the lure of the manual, which could mean a DB9; but it’s looking a bit dated now.
I’ll try the 4.7; I’m in Newcastle the week after I get back so will drop in the dealership up there..
