Probably a quite simple mod to fit a motorbike shift kit to the auto lever? The paddles could be easily wired as the actuator switches. Combine this with an auto box shift kit if one is available to get more aggressive shifts and a more reliable box. It would need some imagination to work around P,R,N,D but certainly doable.
Hmm there's a thought - I might even have a go myself now the seed is sown...
Who makes the auto box for Maserati?
Just because you have a mechanical shift lever to select the gears, doesn't mean that it is not electrically controlled.
Compushift is an auto gearbox controller that can be used with lots of different auto gearboxes.
For example we are familiar with the ZF auto gearboxes fitted to 90's Jags and Range Rovers...they can be controlled with Compushift, and paddle shift controlled, and have a mechanical lever shifter, but electronically controlled, most auto boxes with a 4th speed lock up top gear are.

Darwin would nor be pleased..
The auto boxes are BTR - a fairly unusual Australian chunk. They derive from a Ford Falcon down there I think? I'm pretty sure it's all electric but need to do some more digging.
