We are seeing the 4200 ones fail badly after a few months if they are aloud to go flat for a couple of weeks. Seen 2 failures this summer. I would advise to go for a different brand.

Once dead they just don’t take charge again.

Ironically the GS has a Halfords (own brand) offering in it and in the four years I’ve had it it has been too flat to start on many occasions and with a little jump it recovers every time. I cannot believe it every time I’m quite prepared to change it but instead it just perks emright up!

One of them was mine! I have just found the receipt for mine yesterday - bought from Halford's for £120 in June 2018. Looking at their terms and conditions regarding the guarantee, I'm not hopeful for a refund but will let you know.

Which Yuasa battery 'line' are using, Matt?

I had one in each of my E39's (non-AGM/non-start stop of course)... and they were faultless. Maybe they're not well suited to Maseratis.

Did you let them go flat though? I think the issue is their ability, or lack of, to recover.

Need to replace the Bosch battery in the SZ as it won't hold charge for more than a week on no use, can't complain its been in the since 2005 when it replaced the original factory unit from 1991. I think I'll buy the same again

So you should be good to 2035...

I had a Bosch S5 fail in the QP V. It was just over a year old and the car was in regular use, but one fateful morning it wouldn't even power the central locking let alone anything else. Luckily the key opened the boot, but even after a prolonged charge the battery was kaput. No prior indication of problems, and a replacement (an Exide from Tayna) is working fine with the battery maintaining charge on max load, so I've discounted any system or charging problems. ECP subsequently replaced the Bosch battery without quibble, so I now have a spare sitting in my garage waiting for a rainy day.

I do wonder if modern batteries are made 'down to a price'.

Was it an AGM/stop-start Bosch battery, Phil?

Much appreciated, my yuasa has now failed after all the usual checks. I was about to get a straight swap so will go back to the Bosch S5 I had in my old 3200.

No such luxuries on the V, just standard technology with an old school wet cell.

I only ask because I had a Bosch AGM prior to my Exide (via Tayna), and it was shared belief on SM that the AGM/stop-start component of the battery was possibly the root-cause of my electrical misfortunes.

You'd think the stop/start thing would mean a more powerful battery for the frequent starts.

It’s not more powerful, it is slightly more efficient at charging and discharging and copes better with deep cycling, which is what we are talking about here.

Understood; as Zep says, stop/start is a different ball game in the same way that leisure batteries have yet another configuration. Oh for the good old days of accumulators, everything was so simple then :)
