Putting either on is pretty pointless unless you change the rear boxes anyway . I've had both types on in all manor of combinations . It depends what you want . If you want to have a bit more noise have an X . If you want to scare the sh1t out of people put an H on.

For me having had both.

The H pipe sounds better on the 4200/GS.
The X pipe sounds better on the Granturismo.

I currently have an unsilenced H pipe on my GS (along with de-cat race pipes), and if I’m really honest I’m undecided.

I like the volume and the sound when changing gear (in either direction) is awesome. The snarl and the pops mean I change gear at least three times more than necessary!... It also feels as though it revs a lot more freely (this is probably due to the deletion of one set of cats).

The bit I’m not so sold on is that at times I feel like it sounds as though I’m driving an American muscle car rather than an Italian sports car... I can’t decide whether it’s a bit too deep and rumbly, especially at idle and at low revs...

If only someone had a spare x-pipe for a GS knocking around so I could experiment some more!?....

Its classic x-plane vs plain crank firing order....
Our cars have the lolloping x-plane crank. That scream you associate with italian cars is the 180 degree plain crank firing order of Ferraris and such...
True, the X-Pipe kind of disguises that lumpiness ( which it really isnt as x-plane cranks offer less opposing dynamic and increased longevity) but x-plane ranks are typically not tuned to rev their bits off either....so it IS actually American muscle ! ( made by Italians )

I like this response but not sure I fully understand it...

does it mean that an x-plane crank engine will naturally sound like the noise is coming in pulses, and like a rumble, rather than a scream? And that putting an h-pipe on such an engine amplifies the pulsiness (lumpiness), but putting an x-pipe tends to mix the streams and disguise the lumpiness?
