Worrying Noises from Engine

Sounds bad this...

There is a definite 'thumping' noise from the engine or possibly exhaust (seems louder under driver door) but not always, initial start is fine, getting warmer noise starts, and generally goes the putting revs on.

Only issues I've had recently is overheat when rad rubber leaked, never cooked it tho, and for first time I used Irish super-unleaded.

Ooh mate that doesn't sound good to me although hard not being there in person.
Oil level first have you checked it ?
I know the QP does not have a oil pressure gauge but does the red light go out quickly ?
On my last 4200 dry sump engine it was the combined pump that failed oil and water.
Don't drive her.
Phil.

Doesn’t sound good does it. Hopefully you can get it remedied without too much expense.

What’s noise like when fully hot when oil would be at its “thinnest”
Can a cheap code reader give you the oil pressure?

I personally would look for a decent garage workshop who can hook up a capillary oil pressure gauge to see what's going on.
When I did mine there was pressure one moment and gone the next due to the pump not rotating all the time.
Well documented on here and quite rare but the water pump had been leaking and corroded the splines driving the oil pump making a real mess.
The noise was the top of the engine starved of oil and 32 lifters rattling.
Good Luck they are strong engines but investigate ASAP.

Not what Id describe as "thumping" but as above; that sounds like a bag of nails !

I have the same problem, and have tried replacing the oil return valve, replacing the gauze filters for the variators that come with the cam cover gasket set.
I have even tried the Russian oil additive Resolv, with nano particles, which helped somewhat.
Now the noise is back, so I think I need to follow Phil's path and change the oil/water pump.
It has a slight water seep, so I can't ignore it any longer.
While the headers are out I'll get them ceramic coated.

Which noise are we discussing? The top end? That's always been the same and and on other QP's I've looked at, iPhone probs accentuating it. With bonnet closed u can't hear anything hardly...

I can hear a low bass thump sometimes, like pinking, not a rattle a thud really...

As I said earlier without being there with my own ears to listen its really hard to say.
I wonder what difference an oil and filter change would make ?

I was picking up on the top end..(iPad doesnt help, and tbh, Phil is right. Not much you can say from these clips...) I do however hear a rythmic thud there aswell...

Well, dropped car off for general fettle oil change etc, before I came back to UK for a week, when I did drop car off after a week of being stood couldn't hear the knocking I heard.

Word back is work done, no worrying noises so either I got '**** something is broken ear' syndrome we all get occasionally, or it was shittty Irish Super-Unleaded which I tried for the first time causing a knock which the engine has now adjusted to. My pal with a Porsche 93-something said his car knocked with super-unleaded so fingers crossed it's just that.

Time will tell......

In a play on a common saying, no noise is good noise.
