Too much tech in the world these days, a nice manual TRVs work for us at the moment

agreed, we have 3 zones, one for each floor controlled by hard wired electronic drayton digistat/programmer and manual TRV's, never had a single issue since fitting 12 years ago, no point having tech just for the sake of it, same with modern motors far too much tech imo, some is good but some simply just not necessary

I've had three TRV's burst in the last year and loose all the wax leaving the radiator flat out!

blimey, never heard of trv's bursting, were they cheapo ones, rather like lock shields, you can gat the cheap trade pack shite ones or the better quality ones that don't start weeping years later if you start messing with them

No Drayton TRV4 units, the thermostatic part is a wax filled biscuit that balloons as it heats up to press the needle down and close the valve. These were all switched off to 0 (beyond the frost setting) and it seems as they heated up in the summer or whenever it has proven too much for them.

Anyway my box of shiny stuff has arrived and it is a lot smaller than I imagined in the photos (apart from the radiator controls and tank stat). I'm impressed so far...

Had the evohome system fitted 3 years ago, 20 TRV's, great improvement over original single thermostsat system, very controlable room by room. Very pleased with it., ideal for a large house that is not well zoned.

All installed and working out of the box: Truly impressed with it all so far. Will tweak it over the coming days...
