Today has been a day of extremes, a great car meet this morning with two cars and all the family having fun, then a lovely walk on the beach until the sky turned and it started hailing, now back home fire lit and fish pie ready for dinner - all it needs too finish it off is a nice glass of wine, maybe followed up with a glass of port (WFH tomorrow, so no early drive) only downer the bloody diet

It might be going out the window today

Non-stop rain here in Essex for the past 2 days.. had to put a halt on building an outdoor fireplace and kitchen using gabion stone walls. Its a complete swimming pool out there.
Time to pull a btl from the cellar. Got my 80 year old mother staying - might plunk her in front of the tv with a film whilst I retire for a cigar :as004:

Lovely btl of Barolo Jon, great vintage too. Enjoy it, it’s worth a few quid so good on you for opening these fabulous wines. Jealous. My cigar room is open anytime you fancy stopping by with a bottle :alan2:

that’s an offer I would be tempted to take you up on Bebs! Your cigar room looks like an awesome place to while away a few hours.... I’ve got a few of these still, (5 I think), and a few of the 1996 which is even better (IMO)…

I know they are, at least in theory “worth” silly money, but they are all part of what I inherited when my FIL died 5 years ago, and my way of looking at it is that if I don’t drink them they will just go past their best, and that seems a waste.

So, rather than do that, I’m going to enjoy them at their best, and will at some point this evening raise a glass in his memory...

I think that’s very gracious of you Jon and to be applauded! Well done for drinking the bottles left for you. If one can put the monetary issue of a well produced wine aside, it’s there to be enjoyed.
I didn't for one second suggest you bring one of your many inherited bottles along, any btl of plonk will do :)
Not sure where you are based, I’m near Maldon in Essex. The invitation is there ;)

Forgive me if I said this before, but Barolo makes your wee smell funny. Just like asparagus does.

Having said that, it’s amazing wine. So good, I ordered my Defender in Barolo Black - a £500 option no one really notices unless the sun is in the right mood.

Good on you for enjoying it. Exactly the reason why it was made.

I have just looked on my cellar on Berry Bros and the 2 cases I have there are down 30% in a couple of months.... At this rate im going to drink it...
Maybe wine is a new forward indicator of a recession .... maybe I should just average and buy more, what could possibly go wrong! :D
