I noticed a ding, about the size of a 5p coin in my windshield. It's on the drivers side, but below my field of view. I was told this would not pass MOT, and I called those mobile glass fixer guys, I forgot their name, and they said they couldn't repair it, but would hapilly replace the windshield. Any ideas of what the best path to persue would be?

How about one of the breakers out there?
as i said in another post i know of 3 of these now.
I also have a large ding caused by an HGV driving in the hedgerow and chucking up stones.
I heard it hit like a bullet but could not see where it hit until i cleaned the car then whoa...one big ding and crack!
with the 4200 spyders scuttle shake it willbe across the entire screen in a few weeks i bet.
I will have alook then see if it can be fixed,if not its a replacement and its only just had one.
Bugger!!

If they say no repair then new is the only way...I would get a few quotes first as prices will vary if the last screen I had replaced is anything to go by....I would imagine your insurance will cover it tough..Most have windscreen replacement cover these days.

Thanks, the only thing that makes me question the repair v. the replacement is that I had called the company on the phone, and sight unseen they asked make of car, then instantly said we can replace the windshield, and no mention of even coming to look at the damage for repair option...........Since I'm insured from the US, I have an excess that is the same either for a repair, or a replacement, but thought the repair would be under my excess. I'll call and around and get some estimates as suggested.....Thanks

Windshield ? i think you mean windscreen :)

Is it still an MOT fail if the damage falls with in the swipe of the windscreen wipers?
Cheers

Windshield, windscreen -- Leave it to us rowdy colonials to change it up a bit. Currently my "baby" is at Bob Haughtons getting some work done, and they said it would not pass with the current damage.

If you can aford it get new as a second hand one could have underline damage which could cause a crack at anytime, removing a bonded screen can also cause damage.

My insurers insisted that Autoglass should replace the windscreen on my 3200 nearly three years ago. They priced it at over £2k although Maserati said the cost of the screen was about half that (go figure...). The problem is likely to be availability of a new screen as you will be lucky if it's a stock item. BH should be able to advise. Make sure that the glass company know what they're doing, and do try to be present when the screen is changed.

Morning all.

I had just my winscreen replaced following a crack received from a stone flung up on the motorway. This was paid for by my insurer (subject to a £70 excess payment by me) and it does not effect my no clais bonus. To take this offer I had to use the insurers choice of fitter (Autoglass) and I was worried that they'd bugger it up as I've heard some horror stories and second worry wast that I wanted to make sure that they used original Maserati glass and fittings.

Once I had my mind put to rest over the phone I booked it in at the Camden branch and was immediately comforted a little by the Ferrari 360 and Porche 911 being the only others cars in there. I spoke to the guy who was going to do the job and he'd done a few Maserati's and so I was comforted a little further. They had sourced the glass from HR Owen which was suppoed to be a 3 to 5 day wait but called me next day to say it was in. On the day they said it would be ready for collection by 5 but called me at 12.30 to tell me that the job had gone fine and that my car was all ready for me. They mentioned that it had been an £1800 job.

No probs with the screen at all and all Sat Nav ariels and dimming mirror functions are working as normal.

Wasn't such a drama after all.

Good luck.

Good news then Jol, it does really depend on who you get , i did have issues with autoglass (also recomended by my insurers) on a simple door glass, here in Milton keynes , but the damage was done by Autoglass Bedford emergeny cover team so when it came time to have the screen done there was no way they were touching my baby, None of the guys i spoke to had done a Maserati ever , and being told No problem it just like a bmw didnt install me with confidence and iwas proved right , hence H R Owen did front screen and all went perfectly

regards loz

Glad to hear that it's not all horror stories, and the glimmer of hope provided by everyone. Atleast I can ask if they've ever worked on a Maserati, or steer the work towards someone more knowledgeable in Maseratis. Thanks for all of the input, it's greatly appreciated...........

Finally got in contact with my insurance company, and they have a specific repair/replacement contractor they work with. I spoke with their representatvie on Friday and they are going to go to Bob Houghton, where my baby is currently getting some work done, and re-evaluate the need of a repair vs. replacement. The windo rep. said if there is indeed an need for replacement he would work with Bob Houghton to insure the repair went to specification. We're hopig that it's just a cae of repair, but it helps to hear the the window person was cognizent of my concerns and willing to work with the folks at BH if necessary. Thanks everyone for your posts, advice, and help as always.........

Thats great news. I bet that gives you piece of mind. For me a replacement would be better as last time I had a crack repaired it looked good but you could always see the mark..Perhaps it's because I new where it was and I'm fussy like that....
