Windscreen replacement minefield

I'd like to replace the windscreen on my M140i.
Not because of any stone chips or cracks, but because after over 75k of mostly fast roads and motorways it's like the sky at night in low sun expecially.
Covered in mini impact marks. I think it is actually dangerous and a condition that is not picked up at MOT etc.
Had the same on my previous high mileage BMWs too.
No doubt some where along the line you will get your wish as they continue to make Mot even more stringent year on year , seems motorists bashing is the order of the day now the greenies are in charge

Add rain, a dark night, oncoming headlights and it all becomes guess work and fingers crossed!

Indeed.
Should be a service replacement item.
Nothing stopping myself of course just getting it replaced, however I can't imagine the cost if not through insurance.
Do you know anyone who has replaced their windscreen just for this condition?

No but similarly mine is scratched. I have, in the past, used glass restoring polish (on my 4200) which worked well but was messy and hard work. I keep joking to my sister I'll drop a spanner at some point.

The glass is going to run you £800+

I had Admiral and Autoglass change mine after VEOB last September. It was already a Pilkington screen and they fitted another. I had no issues at all. The guy even gave me new 3m stickers to put the toll tag and dash cam back up.

Surely it is false economy for an insurer to go cheap, if the screen does not fit they will only have to replace it again and are not all screens tested to a safety standard no matter where they are made?

I never understood this oem mindset. Maserati don't make them. They just get the cheapest provider that meets their requirements to stick their logo on it.

So it's gonna be really hard to judge if your 'OEM' screen isn't *identical*, is it not :)

Although for more mass market cars I am reliably informed when you start looking at lane deviation warnings and so on, sometimes aftermarket screens simply can't cope.

Exactly. Just because it does not have the logo does not mean it comes from a different supplier. The installer is also responsible for installing a screen that complies with regulations.
They would be silly to fit cheap rubbish on an insurers say so as the exposure is theirs. That's is if there is cheap rubbish. Of this I have no clue.

Indeed. And I would rather doubt that a company such as Autoglass would not be doing due diligence on their suppliers. Or, indeed, dare to fit glass that is not EU certified (or whatever it is these days)

But, hey. People want a trident. I get it. I don't *understand* it but I get it.

Well I have a Pilkington cross. Maybe I am now a member of the Knights Templar.
