....But step 2 is definitely to get someone to look on the computer at the voltages coming off the finger-trap sensor strip: anything below 3 is probably a fault that is telling the car that there is something trapped. New part is £75 plus many hours to fit.

OR get a used rubber seal with the sensor still in it, which might be more for the combined parts, but less time to fit.

Duck duct tape, natch

C

The duck v duct thing is a great story:

Originally called duck tape, as it was made with a material called 'duck' with some glue added.
Then glossy/sticky versions emerged and so people started thinking it was called 'duck' because it was waterproof.
Then it started to be used in HVAC, for sealing ducts, so it got corrupted to be called 'duct' tape.
Then the 'duck' tape company started to make it, so more people started to call it 'duck' tape again.

Found another, £69 in free post and some mysterious £5 voucher eBay said I could use.

If it doesn't fix my same issue I'm coming round to yours with a few top boys!

Well good luck with all that!
(Make sure the one you are buying has the trailing wires for the sensor strip hanging out.)

It does have the sensor wire but not buried in the gasket according to the pic. Suppose it should be easier to thread it in out of the car...

The sensor is a long flat switch (like a tapeworm), attached to a couple of bits of wire and a connector. The whole thing is about 1m long. When fitted 80% of it is embedded in a thin tube within the rubber gasket. So the sensor part is as in the photo here: https://www.sportsmaserati.com/inde...in-jerky-1-inch-increments.28078/#post-739429

And when it is fitted, just the end wires will be trailing out, as in the picture here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Maserati...Seal-Door-Seal-Door-Right-061030/202758067298

If someone is breaking a QP and selling the window gasket, the sensor will still be embedded in it and the wires will be trailing out.
