Window not closing snugly (4200)

Hi All

I have noticed this problem for a while now, but perhaps it's got a bit worse since I got the car back from the body-shop (paranoid, yes I am!).

The passenger window goes up and down fine including the dip-function on opening and closing the door. However, when shutting the door, the window goes up but doesn't fit within the groove of the rubber along the top of the door frame. It's not like this all the way round, just the rear part of the window. It means that a good seal is not made, and although I don't notice any additional wind noise etc, I would like to adjust it. Currently when closing the passenger door, I push the window towards the car so that it engages the top of the rubber properly.

I'm happy to take the inner door trim apart, and can see the window mechanism and guide arms (Matt - I'll get pics of this for the forum when I do). Is it a case of 'bending' the guides somehow so the window angles in to the car more than it does now?

Cheers!

Ok, I take it, its the drivers door, the one that gets the most use.

It could just be a matter of adjustment, or the guides could just be worn out. The way to check is to grab the window and see if it slops back and forth. If it does this, the chances are the guides are worn, and its time for a new unit.

The best way to check is to remove the door card and make sure all the nuts are up tight. At the top or the door panel, there are 2 stop blocks. Adjust these first and see how you get on.

Here is the door card removal guide:

In loz's last picture - all the way down, front and rear of the door - you can see two nuts with a black rubber gasket behind. These are used to adjust the "rails" that the window is travelling in. You can adjust these to tilt the window in or out.

...provided everything is still tight, as per Matt's post...

Thanks for the replies guys. I am now expert at getting my door card on and off (it is the passenger side, ironically as it does get less use). I do notice that the window does slop up and down, whilst the driver side is very solid.

I checked and tightened every nut I could see, but no joy. It all looks ok, except for a yellow plastic piece which slides within the window cross-bar (the scissor-type mechanism) - this looks worn and there's a fair amount of give in it. There doesn't seem to be a replacement for this precise part from what I can see on Eurospares.

Any ideas? It's not terrible so want to do something which will be effective but not expensive!

By the way, whilst fiddling over the weekend on this, I managed to kill my battery (numerous tests of the window without the engine running). So it cost me another £80 for a new battery - doh.

Its a new part then, the passenger side is cheaper and you cant buy the parts separately.

Its just not worth fiddling with it, just bung in the new part.

I got mine for Meriden Main dealer for about £140, so check your local agent, you might get a pleasant surprise.

The passenger one is the cheaper of the two, so looks like you have the right part. Dont bother with salvage parts, you will just end up with one that is much the same.
