Window mech Failure

Hey Chaps,

The window mech on my GS has gone in spectacular style (see image below). Window dropped when I opened the door, then a horrid grinding noise.

Been looking around and the OEM part is £550, although this seems to include new sliders etc. too. Read a few comments about the Alfa part, but not fully understanding the difference. Can you just take the OEM teeth plate and weld it onto the Alfa part, or is there more to it than that?

Yeah I read on one of the threads that they Alfa part lifts through a different range. Is this just the teeth plate that causes this or is the arm of the mech slightly different?

Yep . Exactly the same place as mine . I ended up splicing two mechanisms together . A new arm with the original motor . It was slightly different so had to re drill the arm to fit .

Yep, I've had this happen to mine last year too.
I had a new one from EuroSpares sent out and fitted.

Perfectionists look away, this is my latest regulator bodge. I've had four regulator breakages now, each in a different place.
This is the most recent, the teeth had completely worn away at the end of the upstroke. Bearing in mind there is about 2" of unused toothplate after this, I cut out the offending portion and welded the unused piece back on with a joint plate on the outside face. Looks a dog's dinner but it works and I'm a few hundred quid better off!

Where is the best place to get the Alfa regulator/motor?

I see ones on eBay for around 120ish but don't think they are an official alfa part

My drivers side motor is running slow plus some rattling started back in September and the microswitch goes off autonomously while driving (think it's pushing the window up while its closed)

Yes I have read that, but it only covers disassembly. It does not cover glass set. ie, which of the adjustable points on the regulator & rails you start off with.

Nice... I like how the majority of DIYs cover reassembly by saying work the steps in reverse.

If you figure it out let me know the passenger side on mine is hitting the top of the channel and needs to be adjusted so the glass sits correctly. I looked at it last summer and could not figure it out
