Will Lotus ever build it?

You will be suprised Matt. For some only a Lotus will do. I was that person for many years. It has history and a passion in the same way the Maserati marque does except Lotus still are true to their heritage ....... Sorry I'll get my coat.

I'm with Matt on the choice Andy, and that's due to a similar passion for a marque that you describe. But no matter how deep your pockets are, would you really take the Evija when you can get an F40 for a lot less than £2m?

If it has to be Lotus I think you could have a lot of fun with this:

You're right about the passion though; if only the Maserati marketing folk would see the light!

As a Lotus owner, on my second Exige, I like what they're doing. It shows ambition, with an eye on the future.

I hope they can follow through with a great electric/hybrid power plant, low weight and great handling at fair prices.

I've had Porsche GT3 etc, but Lotus make some great, very pure drivers cars which I believe are cheap to run for the performance offered. A great brand that attracts real enghusiasts.

Well,I'm in,deposit paid, just managed to luckily grab the last available build number,#130. Sit back & wait, and wait, and wait, meanwhile paying incremental extra invoices for unforeseen development costs. Anyway, they promised a 7 year unconditional warranty with unlimited mileage and capped service fees for the life of the car,a lot better than your normal Lotus deal eh ?

OOps.................I must have been asleep & dreaming,OMG did I say that !

Usual Lotus deal ? No development done by Lotus, customer pays to fix all the faults & buys lots of trick bits from specialists who make a living from fixing Lotus' bodgy engineering. Warranty.....................what warranty ?
Service costs............................better sell your kidneys first, you'll be fleeced blind.

Cynicism powered from experience as a 25 year, multicar Lotus owner. Unless Geely seriously alter the ethic at Lotus it's going to be business as usual,i.e. once a kit car builder, always a kit car builder. I've spent a day poking around the Hethel factory & was massively underwhelmed by it. It wouldn't even pass muster in a Third World country. And that's saying something. Having seen the Pagani factory which is really a DIY,backyard operation,Lotus is even worse. Handmade cars might be a cute thing to put in the sales brochure, but it can't cut the mustard when it comes to build quality, lots & lots of production rejects at Lotus, not seen anywhere else, says it all.
cheers,rant over.

Think I would Phil as although I love the F40 for me it's too old and I'm just not a old car person. But I am with you I wouldn't pay £2m for a Lotus just as I wouldn't pay £120k for a top of the range Evora.....I would have a very full garage if I had 2m and it would be just one car.......I can see it now...Vantage GT12, Mercedes AMG C63 Black, 2 seat Stradale, BAC Mono, McLaren 600 LT, Aston Rapide AMR, 911 GT3 RS.......Still over 500k change as well......Now that's a thought....But if I had to have one car for 2million it would be an Aston Martin Vulcan.....Dreaming is always fun.

I thought Bahar was booted for taking the **** with his expenses?
The expenses thing came later after Proton had already decided they could no longer afford the plan and fell out with Bahar. Their way of managing the cost of his departure.........
