MD of sister company is looking to tidy up his 3200 but dosen't want to do the work and its too much for me to take on at the momemt - any suggestions

he want to drop the car of with someone to sort the following bits out - any suggestions?

1. Re-upholstery of two rear pillars and the front dashboard top cover.
2. Fix In Car Entertainment system, disconnected as draining the battery.
3. the plastic parts in the car are becoming sticky and need to be stripped and re-coated. - I suggested dipping these in satin black or carbon

Well its all doable and I could do it myself...but not taking on any projects at the moment.

Send it to an upholstery firm first of all and give them the link to the guy in the states that redoes all the plastics.

If he puts it into a MD he's going to get fleeced!

What about the place next to Emblem?

Used them for some minor work on my 4200 seats in the past.

Can't recall the Co but Myles at Emblem will know and they should be able to do it all by using both firms... and Emblem do full restorations too.

I've been known to tidy up a few. Buttons can be hard work, the a/c dials can be done yourself, remove the panel and then remove the rubbery coating with your thumb nail ( I **** you not). Order new electric window buttons....

Dashboard is a little more time consuming but with a heat gun, some upva glue and a few hours you can retretch the leather back into shape.

Rear pillars again will need a proper upholsterer.

I'd get the dash, pillars and buttons done by the upholsterer and the in car stereo will more than likely be a faulty Becker unit, replace it with an after market sinngle DIN unit with DAB and USB. Keep the original to sell when he comes to get rid of the car. No one keeps a 3200 forever :D

Dash top in mine has been recovered in alcantara, looks really nice, might be an option? more so I've been toying with the idea of having the a and b pillars done in the same.

I passed on your advice to MD and he did nothing with it.... thank you all very much.

he has ask me to arrange all this... its alot of work for me and was going to turn it down...

it may take a few months weekend work but would be good to bring a Mas back to showroom condition before summer (fix leather, plastic, electrics and complete detail)

so before I agree, I would like your input / suggestions and assistance please:
electrics
- I spoken to auto electrician, do we have a wiring diagram / fuse box layout that I could have please.
- do we have a power off switch on 3200, same as on GS ?
- is their anything that I need to be careful with on 3200 in terms of electrics?

leather
- spoke to retrim guys who asked me to remove the parts, I need to remove the A and D pillars and dashboard - I've seen the nice write up from Matt for the A pillar and dashboard but any suggestions how to get the D pillars off a 3200. ?
- the interior is blue and was thinking if Alcantara would look good on the dash ? or would you suggest staying with leather ?

plastic interior parts (sticky coating)
- I know a few have done Hydro dipping, would you think carbon would look good or out of place on a 3200 - or keep it the same - matt black and just remove the sticky coating ?

detail
- I will have the wheels off, is the wheel torque setting 120nm ?
- in the engine, is the air box in the same place as GS ? I'm sure I could find it but easier to know up front.
- I want to remove the front grill to give that a good clean and coating, is this held on with just a few screws ?
- detail will take me about a week to do and will be coating in Gtechniq

I know I am asking for a lot of help but it is to bring back Benny's favorite coupe ;)

I've got paper copies of the wiring diagrams, there are a lot of them, if you want just one bit I can copy the relevant part.

I had a battery drain from my ICE, it was the amplifier being constantly on due to an internal fault, pretty easy to identify do a battery drain test with an ammeter and pull the amp plug, assuming car has auditorium, you can get a second hand one from D Askew for £250, it'll be plug and play, I went a different route, but info is still relevant:

https://www.sportsmaserati.com/index.php?threads/3200gt-ask-amplifier-replacement-thoughts.27636/

Powers switch is right hand side of boot near the battery.

Not sure where the D pillars are (seems one too many pillars ;)) but if it's the rear three quarters they're pretty easy, there's an easy to miss screw behind the belts you'll need to take out to help, instructions in here, from there it's pretty simple:

https://www.abacuscaralarms.co.uk/re-coding-meta-alarms/maserati/3200gt-alarm-removal.html

I cleaned and painted my sticky bits

Air filter is completely different to the GS it's two black boxes either side.

thanks so much for the info, yep one too many... C pillar- doh!

so do you need to remove rear seat or can these just be removed (after remove the screws)

the diagrams would be great - first would be the ICE and amp side if thats ok, or if someone has links to soft copies maybe less hastle for you.

interesting, has same issue, ICE when connected drains the battery, unplugged and all ok, he got another unit and I'm told its the same issue, so i'll need to check if he has an amp.

thanks for the thread links, good info and great jobs on the replacement amp and cleaning up the sticky buttons.

I had my seats out already when I took the c pillar trim off so can’t be sure but I reckon you can do it with them in place. It’s just the one screw that’s a little behind the seat back as in the alarm instructions.

The only mistake I made with the sticky buttons was with the set under the heater. Unlike the rest which I cleaned all the sticky off before painting I just painted over the sticky and although not sticky it’s now very easily scratched, unlike the rest, so will have to go back and do again.

how do you remove the rear top seat section on 3200, seems different to the gransport. i've pulled the top part out but can not get the bottom part released?

so long story short I've now got the car to detail and getting the leather fixed.
i'm looking forward to the turn around and getting a 3200 back to a show room condition or better...
thanks to the forum I've got the dash out which was easier than expected however i'm stuck getting the c pillars out.
ive followed oneball suggest and have one last screws to get out but that looks like its behind the parcel shelf which i now have free but can not get the rear top seat out of the way.

as above any suggestions ?

I'll keep this thread updated on progress

rear seat once the top spring clips are released just pulls out, the top spring clips are pretty stiff through and are not simple to release or put back.

thank you all for your help and assistance.

I still couldn't get the top or bottom seats out. finally found a 3200 workshop manual which showed how to do it.... well that didn't work as it says to push back and then up.

in the end for anyone else who wants to know; with a thin strong bar covered in tape, slip this under the seat near the edge, you should feel a bracket, with a little force just lift about an inch, do the same on the other side and the lower seat section will now be free and will slide out.

the top section you need to remove the large bolts holding the seatbelts in, once these are out, pull the top section down and this should now be free.

well that's the C pillar now out ready to be repaired.
