quite frankly I would be inclined to knock your current extension down and start afresh, sometimes it costs more to try and build around existing and if you want open plan make sure you employ a good structural engineer for the required steels and removal of any load bearing walls, fairly straightforward for the right builder, best of luck
I remember our first house in the 60's having a door to the stairs.classic
you were lucky...I remember our first house in the 60's having a door to the stairs.
We had a living room, a kitchen, no heating, no hot water, no inside toilet. On bedroom for five of us and tin bath.
Where we happy? Where we fucck!
Bro took a quick look, he reckons £22k plus and 2 months.
I said 2 weeks lol! He just laughed. At least 2 months he said.....Cheers Wanderer, I’m shocked at 2 months but what the **** do I know lol
Gives me a number to work with though
I'm not disagreeing but it does mean that it makes it bloomin difficult to find a decent tradesman.I have always found those that advertise and those that hide behind trade affiliated organisations tend to be the cowboys, or employ them, most good guys i know or have worked for me , never need to advertise and are always booked up in advance as a consequence. Too many talk the talk but cant walk the walk and never ever give money , ANY MONEY up front , if a good builder chippy/capenter is worth his salt and is confident he will keep you happy because of his faultless work , he will have a few quid in the bank to buy the materials required
Perfect, thanks Dean.Just searched through my mails and refreshed my head. The two guys are Simon Lazarus and Mark Segal. The business is called The Better Business Group in Potters Bar, Herts but I'm sure their service is national.
The web domain was thebbg.co.uk but that was years ago. Seems to be this now:
I did some work over a few years at their offices and also did a little at Mark's house as well. Genuine decent honest guys so would certainly be worth getting in touch with them especially as it costs you nothing I believe.
You are correct in your dilemma , and therein lies the problem , rogue traders often expose these guys, the bad eggs , I personally would have no problem in seeing a construction in progress and stopping to ask to have a look around said site , taking the details and ask the owner later when it's finished of their personal experience , many many times over the years we have done installations for the same customers 3 or 4 times each time they moved , when you finally find that good one you tend to hang on to themI'm not disagreeing but it does mean that it makes it bloomin difficult to find a decent tradesman.
If I want to find a Maserati specialist, I can search on here, as well as ask, and also private message people. (Granted, I still did get ripped off on one occasion!)
If I want to find a tradesman where do you look. I guess you ask friends, assuming they are local, but what if they don't know anyone.
I feel like it remains an unsolved problem, finding a decent tradesman, despite MyBuilder and RatedPeople trying to provide a solution.
Don't tell me..............You lived in a shoe box in the middle of the road??!!you were lucky...
No, a hole in the middle of the road with tarpaulin for cover...Don't tell me..............You lived in a shoe box in the middle of the road??!!
Since we can't go anywhere, the SWMBOs are busy spending holiday money on home improvements! Case in point, just got insurance money for cancelled holiday in yesterday, and it went straight out the door to the nice man who is coming on Monday to put in oak flooring.
