To provide a balanced argument Jon,

In 1596, John Harrington, English, first invented the toilet seat.
Subsequently a Scotsman put a hole in it.

In 1885, Karl Benz, German, developed the car as powered by an internal combustion engine. It was affordable, practical, comfortable, reliable, economical and had good dealer and customer service.

130 years later, his invention was subsequently improved upon by an English company, McLaren......oh hang on.

More balance

England invented football. Exported it to Brazil. Who’s won more world cups?

this is the perfect example to support my point...

I can guarantee that at some point this evening I will be toasting in the new year with a glass of Japanese whisky - probably as I’m waiting for my 15yr old son and 4 of his mates to come back at 1:30am from a New Years Eve house party where there’s going to be alcohol!

I had a couple of nice Japanese ones, can't remember the names, they were quite a vibrant colour compared to ours.
Japanese whiskey can be surprisingly good, I spent a rather long and boozy evening here:
A bar in Berkeley Square that has collection of 400 to work your way through.
Thing about whiskey like so many things, someone will taste the best and hate it and the worst and love it ........ each time their own.

My son and his girlfriend came in at 3:30, the pubs in town shut at 2pm and it’s a 5 to 7 minute walk in a drunk meandering way. Neither know how/why it took them so long to get here. They have been up, fed, and gone back to hibernate, slightly less pale. He is blaming something called Dalwhinnie. If that’s correct.

At least he has taste

Pound for pound I still find Scotch whisky is better.

This is how I’m marking our exit from the EU - the Japanese know a thing or two about taking a long term view - and they know how to make a **** fine whiskey...

I'm tempted to use my Master of Malt gift token. OTOH I'm a bit worried with months of lock ins, I might get desparate and just neck it :D
