Whining 5th Gear Gsport

Having searched the various forums I note that quite a few gearboxes have been replaced. Is this considered "acceptable" for a quality marque? Or is it proof that the engineering standards at Maserati are truly second rate?

Is this on full throttle....lift off or everytime its engaged?

When accelerating through 4K rpm in 5th gear.
On test by dealer they claim also audible in 3rd gear- Maserati said new gearbox.
The box has been changed (warranty) and is quiet again.

Did the dealer throw any light on what caused it in the first place?

Car now has 65k on the clock, only whining from 5th Gear is from Sophie if I watch the repeats on Dave!

Me too get it in the ear , and why do you wanna watch it again when you have already seen it 2 or 3 times , they just dont understand

Well they confirmed that the gearbox was producing the noise - but since they replaced rather than attempt repair (to save on possibility of huge experimental labour charges?) I suspect we may never know.

Best way Barbuckle , diagnosis is very costly , im a great advocator of swapping out,engines /gearboxes rather than rebuilds, much more cost effective and actually easier all round , Glad its all sorted now and you can relax and get back to some trouble free motoring
