Which tires should I buy for my 4200?

I think if the pilot 4"s" was available at the time in 18", just over 2 years ago, i would pay the extra, but only the pilot 4 was available back then. Even now the 4s isn't available for the rear in 18" in the UK.

It’s a while since I looked at sizes for 18” wheels. I got them straight away for the Jaaag and TTRS but they are both running 20s. Failing the PS 4s, I’d be tempted to go GoodYear F1 Assymetric 5s if they do the right sizes.

What I always say I tyre threads: Michelin. Always.
I've never really got why anyone would buy anything else... Unless to save a bit of money, but it is only a bit really, and if you are wanting to save a bit, why drive a Maser....

...so you can drive a Maser.

This spring, I changed over from Falkens to Continentals - details below. Then took her to the track, and the difference was extraordinary! Fantastic tires on dry and wet roads, but they aren't winter rated, so probably poor in winter driving.

Comparing Michelin Pilot Sport 5 and 4S.
Has anyone had a chance to compare these? I have a Spyder on old Pilot Sport 3s and I’m trying decide on what to replace them with. My priority is a comfortable ride over extreme handling. My mileage is low. I’ve been happy with the Sport 3s and I want to stick with Michelin; I think tyres are very important and I’m prepared to pay accordingly.

From reviews it seems like 4S would suit me more because of the ride, but I’d appreciate any comments.

Thanks

Good year F1 Assy give a very good ride, don't know which version is available in your size but they are all good.

Thanks. I put F1s on my TVR back in the day and liked them a lot. I think I’ll stick with Michelin for the Spyder this time though thanks, just trying to decide exactly which ones.

If you are happy with the Pilot Sport 3, you should use the Pilot Sport 5, as they are in the same category (UHP, Ultra High Performance). The Pilot Sport 4S is in another category (UUHP, Ultra Ultra High Performance) like the Pilot Super Sport was.

I’ve alway recommended:

4200 - Goodyear Eagle F1
GT/QP - Michelin 4S

Our tyre fitter has said that the new Michelin is not as good as the 4S and the Goodyear SS is amazing so I guess that’s where I will be going next time.

Pirelli, avoid on the Maserati platform (new one might be better) but on a 4200 they split and crack and on a GT/QP are lethal under 10 degrees plus crack.

With Michelin ps4s (uuhp) no longer available in 4200 sizes are there any other uuhp tyres you would recommend or are Goodyear still the best option? continental 7 or Bridgestone perhaps, not much choice in 18 inch of the newer tyres.

Got Goodyear Asymmetric F1 on mine, been fine although my car only comes out in the decent weather. Think they’re up to Asymmetric 6 now so I’m guessing that would be the latest version.

I fitted 4 Michelin Pilot 4S on my Gransport in July. They have transformed the car.

I use Michelin Pilot Sport 2 N-rated (Porsche specification) on the Turbo.

Would not use any other brand than Michelin.

Michelin a Good French company been going since 1894 probably the most popular brand here.
Didn't realise Bridgestone was the World's biggest Tyre manufacturer.

Continental's SportContact 7 is very good.

Though it's UHP, not UUHP, Michelin's Pilot Sport 5 is also very good.

I've the vredestein ultrac vorti on mine.
No complaints on performance but they do have a very square wide wall, so a full tyre, not as nice looking as a michelin side wall.

When I had a 4200 it had Falcon on I think, they were pretty low, drove it to Costco on the M6 and it was tramlining all over the place, fitted michelin Pilot Sport ( probably 3 as it was 6 years ago) and they transformed the car instantly, I was amazed at the difference.
