Looking to have a week away with the family in France end of July and looking for ideas. Can't cost a fortune, has to be stuff to do with my two boys, we usually drive down to La Rouchelle but not looking to travel that far this time. Up to 3 hours max once of the boat. Ideally staying in a cottage but don't mind the static caravan sites if the right location. Thanks in advance.

Might cost a bit more but look at Corsica. It's utterly gorgeous and the beaches/rivers are lovely. Google Fangu river and see what a fantastic time can be had! My kids loved the place.

Saumur is a lovely part of the world, I would research that. It’s an hour South of Le Mans so you have the Museum there. Zoo in La Fleche the rest of your time exploring Chateau’s and rivers. Also a lake at La Fleche with beach. Bernay stop over on the way down or way back, stunning place.

I'd avoid Le Lude in mid-June...

It's a hike, but the Ardeche is wonderful. Good kayaking. As others have said, the Cherbourg peninsula is great, and don't overlook Brittany.

Listen to Phil he knows and Laval is lovely. Personally I like the Cote D'Azur but it's bloody pricey !

Why not soak up the Le Mans atmosphere and rent our apartment (sleeps 4) right opposite the world famous "Hotel de France" in La Chartre sur le Loir? We can do great rates outside of the race weeks, and there is plenty to do other than motor racing related. Local vinyards, cycling and walking etc. As Conaero mentions, beautiful Samur and Chinon are close as is the Zoo at La Fleche.

Only 4 hours from Calais or just 2-3 hours from La Harvre, Cherbourg, St Malo etc.

Have a look at our website http://www.eventsreinvented.com/maisondespilotes

Was going to suggest Biarritz, but a bit longer than 3 hours drive!
Easyjet now fly into Biarritz however, and you could always take the ferry to Northern Spain instead.
Love it down there.

Does she have a younger sister? Or maybe a niece. Actually, perhaps a daughter?
