When fitting Larini Sport Cats and X pipe are there any other parts one might require?

Next time a few of us are together (LeMans perhaps) we should do some real life comparisons.

I am lovin my H - so have a less than 1000 mile X pipe as supplied by SI available if someone is looking.
I am not standing anywhere near Matt's listening to it. My ears are still ringing from driving it last year!

We have X and sports cats coming that we have developed.
Full stainless

X £350
Sports Cars £750

SM deal: Free fitting if doing both….Beat that!
Is it free sports cats and fitting if I provide all the copies of the incriminating Le Mans photos?

I may send my car to you for sports cats and a tune once it’s finalised!

Thanks for the comments, it’s certainly difficult with a YouTube iPhone clip as well, you never get the true sound picture. I can well believe it has gained bhp. I used to run decat titanium exhaust on my 360 and the throttle response was vastly improved. You just need Matt’s remap now and I’m sure you’ll be running near 550, the F136 is very much ‘turned down’ from factory..
Matt? at AutoItalia? I think there's a thread on this isnt there?

Be interesting to hear with the standard x pipe if you plan to do that.
May do that in about a month or so - just to see. Then decide which way to go... Gut tells me the way i have it now, but you only know when you know right..

Wow. thats pretty much unbeatable.. Assuming the quality is there.. Dont get me wrong. I'm actually not convinced the Larini are all that great in terms of the actual care of fabrication, but they they are made from the right spec stainless and decent CATS internals.

I am swapping out the X Pipe tomorrow and re-fitting the OEM X with resonator to see how it sounds with those CATS. I hope the raspiness vastly reduces. I've come to the conclusion that the Larini X and CATS are great when going "full chat" at 5000+ RPM but its a little annoying in sports mode and not really giving it some... too metallic and raspy. Will see how it sounds and if that base comes back a little.

I hope you are right, although I do suspect the sports cats are the culprits of raspiness. Look forward to hearing further news.

So new update on this experiment.
So ive just had the OEM X Pipe re-fitted to the Larini Cats. Also drove it for 20 miles home after. Such a difference.. :)
My honest feedback is the following:
  1. Exhaust sound has regained its base tone and deep growl. It has lost nearly all of the rasp / metallic hollow sound that i didnt like too much. This is most noticeable when driving at different rev ranges in different gears. Its hard to demonstrate this with a static car video, but its a very noticeable reduction in rasp (windows open and closed). There is ever so slightly a minor change in tone (has very sight rasp, but not much now at all). I'd say its 90% the same sound as OEM.
  2. "Burbling" has increased again on slow speed over run. It lost some of this with the Larini X Pipe. Very similar if not a little more burble than full OEM system.
  3. Pops and bangs... I honestly didn't get much of that with the Larini X Pipe, so was disappointed it didn't give me much TBH. So no major change TBH.
  4. Volume. I would say its about 15% louder than before. In car volume (windows shut) particularly.
  5. Flow sound. Maybe its the Air filter and Cats combo, but you can hear a very slight suction as the engine is sucking in on hard revs.. Very very slightly. Listen carefully and you can just hear it now. Quite nice.
  6. Power/Torque/Responsiveness. I wouldn't say it's lost power and torque from before. The responsiveness is still there with the CATS remaining. There may be 1- 2% loss of power, probably influenced by the sound change more than actual noticeable difference TBH.

The savage sound on full chat, whilst was great on the odd occasion, it wasn't worth the loss in tone IMO.

There is obviously different GT combos out there 4.2L, 4.7L, sport, GTS, Stradale etc.
If you have the Stradale set up and really like the tone of the OEM, but simply want more volume and a bit more responsiveness I'd suggest CATS only.

Nothing wrong with the X-Pipe on its own as many love it and its a much cheaper way to go, but i found the Cats and X Pipe combo wasn't quite right for acoustics reasons only.

Yeah thats exactly my thought.. But which one. Resonated or Non resonated H pipe... the choices hey. not sure if anyone out there has a view. I would edge towards the resonated one from my experience with the X pipe, but who knows.. For now anyway i will see how i go...

For anyone whom wants a Larini X-pipe (only 100 miles on it) PM me.... basically new. Can do a deal..

I got an un resonated H for my Strad but still have standard cats. It’s pretty darn loud and I love the tone.
Will be at the ace tomorrow

For the 4.2 thats easy. You need one that can remove some drone so double tube resonators. Unrestricted it would just get too loud again. Any exhaust shop can fabricate this for far less money compared to a larini one. Just need to find the proper parts. I think powersprint makes a suitable one (https://www.powersprint24.de/Powersprint-Schalldaempfer-OE-76-mm-907616). I was quoted around 400EUR in total.

The Larini H is resonated, but not at the crossover. My (probably hazy) memory of it on Matt’s car was that it took away some of the noise and drama. The X in that respect, to me, is better. But it really is horses for courses. I like my X. Matt likes his X and cats. Scaf likes his H.

Maybe what is required is an exhaust try before you buy kit.

Hi Scaf, how do you find the tone and volume of the H compared to OEM? I know you have standard CATS, but i would imagine whatever sound you have would simply be amplified by 15% with CATS. Now that i have experimented a bit, the CATS add more volume but don't change the tone much at all.. So i reckon Sports CATS and a H would be the same as yours but 10 - 15% louder..

There are some sound clips in this thread that might help but I think you only really get to hear it when driving under load , lots of pins and Abby’s on overrun as well
