What's this and where has it come from?

Sorry guys, another daft post, but what the heck is this part??
As I was driving home tonight, there was a "PING" and I heard something hit the mat by my feet. When I stopped at home, this clip was lying just to the right of my right foot on the driver's side footwell.

Does anyone have the remotest idea what it was holding together and where I should look to put it back?

Its the thingy wot holds the potentiator, tight against the actuator wot operates the spigot bearing!......FFS!!!!

To be boring and give a sensible answer, the offending article is an 'edge' clip that hold thin bits of stuff [like trim] to metal bodywork.
