I love the Bang & Olufsen stuff. I remember my parents having a Beogram 6600, I think it was, back in the 70/80s. I’ve bought retro stuff in the past and had a Beocenter 9000 with Penta Mk1 speakers. Now I’ve got the Beosound 9000 with beolab 8000 and 4000 speakers and a beolab 3500 link speaker. Oh and I’ve also got one of those little B&O vans.
The 9000 with beolab 8000s is an absolute classic icon!
I‘ll admit to being somewhat obsessed with B&O and the list is long.

Some nice kit there Bebs. I think once you’ve had B&O you’ll never be without. I sold my first set up to go Sonos and was really disappointed with the sound. B&O tends to be enthusiast owned so I’ve always bought really good condition used stuff for not a lot of money for what they are.

I agree Simon, some of my stuff is pre-owned too, nothing wrong with that if the condition is good. You can’t buy the iconic 8000s any more and because I wanted a set, pre-owned was the only way. Same with the Beolab 5, no longer produced.

Andy, just use a mug and tape the string from a teabag to the inside of the mug - with the string and label hanging on the outside. Then, fill said mug with beer ;)

I previously worked as head of Christie’s wine department - Europe and Asia - so I’m used to drinking on the job! ;)
I've often thought of buying wine from auctions. Not super rare collectors wine, but wine for consumption at no more than £80 a bottle.

I've heard good things about an auction house in Sussex, but wondered if you've any thoughts?

Obviously, it could all be corked!

The vast majority of fine wine used to trade through auction houses in the UK and the US, not just collectors stuff. Think our annual turnover in the wine department was around £50 million at the turn of the century.
Generally speaking people that buy/store/drink wine at £30+ btl have an interest in wine and therefore know how to store it properly. You won’t find a bottle of Petrus next to someone’s Aga.
So auction houses can be a very good way of buying decent wine at reasonable prices. I buy a fair bit myself from auctions.

Any particular ones good value, or inflated?

With greatest respect to your previous employer, I would imagine that Christies/Sothebys would possibly attract inflated prices.

All advice appreciated. Feel free to PM.

Though, my wife has imposed a ban on me buying any more wine till Q3, so shhhhhh :)

They won’t be inflated prices. Fine wine is a commodity that’s traded around the world. Nobody pays more (or less) at international auctions. So what you have is wine merchants actually buying fine wines at auction and then selling them on with their mark up. That gives you as a private individual an in at ‘trade prices’ if you like, providing you do your research prior bidding.
It’s impossible to pin point any particular wines but if you come across something you’re interesting in I’d be happy to comment Rossyl.
Mums the word of course... !
