What happened to my paint?

Ah ok, a little too far to pop round as id measure your paint and have a look for you. Photos can be deceiving and id ideally like to see depths of paintwork before making a judgement.

Hope it's not contageous! Connaero gobbed on my paintwork this evening it was so awful... but with a bit of fingernail scratching reckoned he'd made a start at solving the problem! I'll give it a polish next weekend to se if that works.

Going to have to take it somewhere in the hope they may have seen it before, it's like a fungus in the clear coat lol a pic under artificial light

Where abouts are you? I may be heading south this weekend.

Have you tried to clay it yet and used de-ionised water (and/or a drying cloth) when cleaning?

Not claying no, will try that and report back, although I suspect from what I have tried so far claying won't do any good, will let you know though.

Sadly that looks like it will need taking back through the laquer and repainting-
it’s certainly not normal and given what you have tried already it’s highly unlikely to be a diy fix

Did your car get wet on the ferry, sea salt can do this, mine had marks like yours when l came back from the IOM, washed it the next day and had to tee cut it to remove spots can,t leave it to long or it damages the paint for good.

If it's on the surface, carefully try a heat gun. That's how you remove chemical residue and acid left by insects, bird ****, water staining etc. Do not stay still with the gun on any area though!

Got around to having another go at the bonnet yesterday. Thumbs up for the clay-mitt suggestion! Worked like a charm! So it was some sort of tree sap/gunk on the surface after all. Might have been a bit too enthusisatic though as I've now got a few scratches to polish out.

Nice work Eb....great result. Must be some contamination in the lacquer. I would polish and wax it after the clay work just to get a nice seal on it.

I did say clay it ;)

Stubborn water (inc. chemical) marks are always a pain.

Glad you are sorted!
