So back to this again or my 4200. On eBay there are new wheel bearings. Can these be replaced directly without having to change the original hub as my one only needs the actual bearing. I have an exceptional mechanic and will ask him given the answers I have gleaned from you lot. Thanks very much neil
It's the complete hub assembly.

As the title says, I’m in need of a front wheel bearing for the masser. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? Thanks very much neil
So after a long look and some even longer deliberation I took the plunge on a nos part from an eBayer named soprano Harry. Item came today and is indeed brand new. Price negotiated down to 420. I’m waiting on a lower oil pipe also from eBay from sopranostu1962! Same address on both. Couldn’t be happier with the bearing. Hopefully get the oil pipe soon so I can get the maser back on the road(in time for winter storage!)

Front wheel bearing is not difficult job. Maybe get the wheel off to apply penetrant a few days before you do the job.

SopranoStu is well known round these parts, so you are ok there. FYI £420 is the same price as from Scuderia Car Parts.

Wheel off
Calliper off
Disc off
Wiring out the way/accekerometer
4 bolts to undo the hub
Pull out the front feeding the cable through.

That’s pretty much it whereas the rear is a different level of pain

So the front Hub has been changed(eventually). Now I’m in another complete level of frustration. The abs light and msp light are now on, even though they were never on prior to changing the hub. Pushing the msp button does nothing and it’s red light is on. Have had masertell look at it with his box of tricks and is coming up with intermittent speed sensor fault. Clearing the code does nothing. The hub was brand new From a forum member. Pics attached

The abs system is self checking on start up. If the fault intermittent it will clear after restarting the car.

If it is staying on then its a permanent fault and wont be cleared with a code reader.

Check the wiring connection to the hub is connected properly and no frayed wires. If you think its the new hub thats at fault then check the circuit between the loom connector and the hub connector.

Its entirely possible that its another hub sensor thats at fault. If it was on the sd2/sd3 they should be able to tell which corner it is.

If the light is staying on it is a MOT fail.

It is a GT. The hub I can live with since it's only seldom intermittent. The steering bits are the ones keeping it off the road

The steering bits are the ones keeping it off the road .....................surely those bits should be keeping it on the road

One crazy question, was it the right hand wheel bearing you changed? If you unplug the left hand one does it go from intermittent to permanent?

It’s not unheard of for the handing to be transposed.

Yep I replaced the right bearing. I’ll unplug the left one to see if there is indeed
a problem with it. One question, are these items handed or do they fit universally left and right? Thanks again, neil

There was a change in the speed sensor from 2002 to sometime in 2003. One has black wires (early iirc) and blue for later. I am told that the resistance is different between the two.

You are absolutely right. The context of the question was whether they were the same left to right, front to rear. To me anyway.

That would explain why the fault has occurred. The one I bought has a black wire. I’ll check the left hand hub for the colour of the wire. Thanks very much
