I started off with a 4.2GT as well... I swapped it for the 4.7MCS after 6 weeks which I then had for 18 months. The 4.2 is a very disappointing car.

As mentioned above, save up for the 4.7.
I am in no way disappointed in mine absolutely love it.

There honestly isn’t much in it between the 4.2 and 4.7 I prefer the more aggressive 4.7 styling and ended up adding all the external MC Sport bits when I had the 4.2.

All GranTurismos are fine. The 4.2 is a Jag XK sort of car whereas at the other end of the spectrum the Stradale is the Porsche 911 GT3's country cousin. The 4.7 auto and 4.7 MC are in the middle depending on how much chilli you want in the mix.

Wrong time to be buying a car, huge demand + summer. I'd keep saving and wait for the market to cool off for the winter, might be frustrating but you'll probably get one for your budget.

Gotta disagree there.
I thought they were chalk n cheese.
4.7. Full fat....all day long.

Drive them both, you’ll see.

Did not know it was a summer car … yes, definitely I can wait … I missed 3 that were going for 18k a month and a half ago … now prices are up 3 k … it may be the summer effect … thanks!

I don’t disagree with you about going for the 4.7 if you can. But I traded my 4.2 for a 4.7 MC-Shift and now have the 4.7 Sport auto and looking back I would have been happy keeping the 4.2 as I think the performance gain is negligible.

Like a lot of us I'm looking at cars all the time and used car prices have shot up big time in the UK since March 2020.
Is it not the same in France then phil? Prices here have gone silly. I sold my BMW 650 in February for £500 short of what I paid for it in 2019. Bought the 2014 Ghibli S with 24k miles for 23k but now if you can find a S your looking at least 26k for similar age/miles. My son has a 16 plate Seat Leon 60ishk miles webuyanycar earlier in the year 6.5k and this week been offered £8250. How long can these prices last?

The outright performance was never a big issue for me.....can’t really use it responsibly on the road....so I was quite happy poodling around at 30mph down-changing etc with the windows down and that noise!
The 4.2 without a lot of mods doesn’t have that. These were my thoughts at the time......86607

to the OP good luck getting a bargain, many of us here do love a good deal.
Caveat Emptor though.
Buying any car I price up consumables (brakes, tyres, next service, maybe clutch?). Unless you buy a freshly serviced car with good brakes and tyres any GranTurismo might need £2000 in the first year.

If you were selling a "cheap 4.2", would you do the above?
Good luck, you might get lucky. Running these cars on loose change may be impossible.

Add to that the market trend of rising second hand prices (including auctions) and iy might be unicorn hunting season.

I'm pleased for you. This is why they build different cars to different spec's for different people with different tastes and expectations.

Some people are happy with potato soup, others prefer chilli beef.
All depends which person one is. I like chilli beef, and was disappointed with the 4.2 potato soup.

Rising prices can mean two things: demand is larger than supply or inflation…if it’s inflation, then there is no “real” price increase, it just means that money has become less valuable. Given what’s happening globally, my take is that we’re dealing with the first signs of problematic inflation as I very much doubt that there suddenly is such an increase in demand over supply.

Over here demand is rising. Due to covid people are not using public transport. They rather opt to buy a car for a 2/3 day commute to work. So second hand car sales are peaking and thus prices are increasing.

I do expect once covid is gone and everyone is stuck in traffic they will quickly go back to public transport. Thus demand will be low and a lot of supply.

The shortage of “chips” and available parts is impacting new car builds/orders globally.

I really enjoy my 4.2 I tried an MC before I decided to buy it. For me the price/performance difference was an easy choice, the 4.2 was £18.5K (6 months ago) FMSH, subframe treated and a file of other receipts. The MC was £34k, totally stunning but I'll never use that extra performance and really just wanted a GT not a sports car and the 4.2 fills that bill wonderfully.

I've also noticed prices have gone up.
