Hey Loz, when I got my spyder, I looked for a spare tire. I found out 1. they are rare, 2. you can't get replacement tires, 3. what do you do with the full size tire you take off the car? I abandoned my search. If you find an alternative, let us know, Thanks Ed

Hi Ed, to answer question 3, you carry a plastic bag large enough to fit the flat tyre. I got one from Costco when I bought tyres there. Then you move the passenger seat to full forward position and try to place said plastic bag full of tyre and rim into the back seat.
Next problem not mentioned is deflating the space saver afterwards to the same size to refit in the boot cavity.
I was able to buy a space saver on eBay in Australia 3 years ago from a guy in Melbourne who traded in his car but forgot to put the spare in.
No one else bid, so it was a complete bargain. I will only use for interstate travel due to the deflating issue. If I get a flat locally, I've got 2 spare sets of GS wheels I can use.
Anyone had success getting the space saver to return to original shape?

Would also like to know how easy to deflate, as would like to check what I am carrying around is still serviceable. Reports of them not sealing on the rim when inflated and rubber degradation etc.
When I improvised mine using a Merc SL spacesaver (same tyre), the kids where much younger and more of a concern should we be stranded. Less so now, but still feel any spare wheel is better than nothing!

I think it all depends on where you are , my only experience of a flat/rear blow out was in France on my way down Le Touquet for a weekend jolly , not having a spare , meant trying on a friday late afternoon of obtaining a new rear tyre ( of the right size ) stuck in the middle of nowhere , but with 20 other fantastic well meaning maserati owners close at hand . It ended with me accepting defeat and using my AA 5 star european to recover the car home to UK , basically in France it was at the time a really rare tyre to get hold of .................they were quoting me Monday lol , but a near size comparrison which would of worked was 400 odd euros from memory 18" ones were available , but the gransport as we all know are 19"

You aren’t alone there. On the MOB trip Shaun lost a rear tyre on the run up to the Furka Pass and waited 3 days for a new on from Germany. Not that I would fancy a long run on a space saver but it’s good to have options.

Not tried, and don't use a space saver to test, but am wondering if rigging up a basic vacuum pack machine would work.
Ive wondered that myself...
These are getting old in the tooth, and replacement tyres dont seem to be readily available, asuming you can find a fitter with the wherewithall to push it over the rim should you source one in the first place....

I was offered a spare space saver a couple of years back.

Regretfully its tyre was already c10 years old and starting to crack and I could not source new rubber to replace it... so declined.

Would still want one, if only to ensure I got to the next hotel on a road trip.
