It looks like I’ll be using Shanks pony for a period later in the year having just been stopped for speeding on the local bypass. I was giving the old BM estate an Italian tune-up/dpf clear out and got tagged by an unmarked scuffer. She’s got 326,000 miles on her and she can still cruise at an officially ratified 121mph. Apparently they are having a bit of a crack down on speeding so go carefully and remember, there but for the grace of God go all of you guys.

50 over the limit. What's that? 6 months ban with a good lawyer?

12 Months if the judge has the hump.
24 if they want to make an example.

It depends on the beak at the time; the last time I was banned (in 2002) I got 2 weeks for 115 in a 60 without a lawyer.

Bugger. Sorry to read that, Ben, but at least you weren't pushing on. Bizarrely, I'm sure your previous good character, your service history of protecting this little island of ours from its foes and your standing in the community will weigh in your favour.

Do you have a date yet?

Not being at work might (licence essential for travel to work) extend the ban...

Take Sue along and get her to rip the judge a new one about you being stuck under her feet; he may feel sorry for you :D

It does indeed. 2 weeks for 115 is very well played.

An ex's neighbour went to court for drink driving (1 1/2 times over the limit), a few weeks before Christmas one year, was expecting a 6-12 month ban.
Instead the judge made an example of him and gave him 6 months in prison.

How much does a ban hurt your insurance as a matter of interest? Double? Triple?

I've had three NIPS, two 34's in a 30, and an 81 in a 70. All in same 6 months and about 8 years ago now. Luckily high speed doesn't float my boat, but rapid accretion does and they (probably) can't do you for that!

Looking at the penalties a ban is anywhere from 7-56 days OR 6 points and no ban. The fine is anywhere up to 150% of weekly income. Like I said sh!t happens so let’s be careful out there!

Drink/drugs is a mandatory ban for a minimum of 12 months. Speeding at up to 2X the limit is a discretionary ban.

There must be more to that , did he tell the judge to F off or something

A guy I worked with 15 years ago was an alcoholic, he got a 12 month ban for 2x the limit

A few years later got stopped again , drove home drunk then decided he wanted some chips so drove ½ mile to the chip shop, got stopped on the way back 3x the limit

He was bricking it on court day ,£10,000 fines , 2 years in prison , mandatory 3 year ban

Came out bouncing , 3 year ban and a £500 fine , not even a weeks wages

They even let him off some of the ban after he went on a course.

I'm not saying that DD is remotely ok, but that's a surprising substantial punishment.

From what I understood it was his first offence, maybe there was more to it that he didn't tell us.
We're going back 20+ years now though.

Being just before Christmas it made the front pages of the local newspapers and helped the Police with their Drink Driving campaign.

Tbh, it’s been pending for years so I’ll pay the fine, do the time and carry on. It’s not worth getting unspooled over something like this, and I’m thankful I wasn’t in the 335D or the TT or things could have got really serious.
Why? Did they confiscate your car then?
