Casualty no 3. :(Sudden coolant loss having just conquered Mont Ventoux. Probably pipe of doom at the back of the engine. Amazingly Matt has the replacement and willing to dismantle everything to fix by the side of the road! However have decided to play safe and join the other 2 hire cars for the rest of the trip. Fun and games!

Given the age of the current retirees, I suspect that most of the issues are down to pipes rupturing (be that F1 or cooling). I know my own F1 pipes went last year and that was despite the very limited mileage I do.

So note to all Coupe/QPV owners... time to swap hoses now.

I remember an article in Performance Bikes citing that a problem known as 'Old Bike Syndrome' . Bikes could be serviced meticulously but no one would think about coolant hoses and they would split after a while, usually around the 10-15 year mark as they were more exposed than car hoses.

Best replace with silicone multiple ply jobs...spend the extra quid or two and have peace of mind.

Yeah, agreed. The high-pressure pipes on my Vantage's robotised manual 'box were replaced earlier this year. They weren't quite ready to go, but nor were they willing to commit to another 1 mile or 30k miles. It was a few hundred quid well spent to get them replaced.
