Vinyl skin on rear panels peeling! Help!

Has anybody experienced this or knows if replacement vinyl material can be sourced?

The panels are the same on both the 4200 and GS. The covering is made from a very thin vinyl skin that appears to be quite unique to what's generally available from upholsterers.

I understand that Poltrona Frau supplies the leather for our cars, so I just sent them an email to about the vinyl cover....hopefully someone picks it up!

The panels I am referring to are parts 11 and 12 on here:

They cost GBP 300 per unit to replace and will come re-skinned from Maserati (takes 6-8 weeks)...ouch!

My mechanic in Dubai said that they are both peeling and towards the rear glass have deformed due to heat (they were like that when I bought the car in the US...it was a Florida car). He also said it was clear someone had used some glue to stick them back on, but to no avail...

If I can source the vinyl, we can paint to match if needed and can also use heat to straighten the deformed bits.

Otherwise, I am going to have to drop GBP 600!

Cheers,

JP

Thanks Matt. I am going to take a closer look when I'm back home. I get the impression that the damage is quite extensive to the actual panel and also the vinyl is so thin that doing something aftermarket will look obvious...unfortunately I may have to bite the bullet on this one.

Buster said there are a couple of upholsterers in Dubai worth visiting.

One idea is Alcantara in a matching saddle colour??? (if it's too much money I might just replace the panels)

Alcantara with cuoio sella leather will look cheap IMO. Best to go full leather and pay the money dude.

Here in the UK and northern Europe we are really lucky even tho the weather is not always as we would wish , and this thread proves it , I feel for JP , having spent 13 years myself working in the Middle East /East and West Africa i personally have seen what the incessant heat does to some cars , ive seen some real expensive beauties look like they were 20 years old , when in fact they were only a few years old hope you get it sorted so she's all 100% for when you get home JP

I hear ya BigFoot...I will likely do that.

If I were still in the US, I would likely have gotten it replaced by Maserati North America under warranty. I just got told that because the car is overseas that the warranty is VOID!

They are passing the buck to Italy. Hopefully they come through and send me replacement panels. Otherwise, I will just order replacement parts (eurospares is on the case and have sent a note to Maserati for a quote).

Thanks to all for the compliments...I will take some proper pics when I am home. Hope to get this annoying issue resolved!

Good news. Eurospares to the rescue! Substantially cheaper than they originally quoted:

"Maserati have come back to me confirming the price of the parts required. We can supply at £124.96 each:

981210819 – Complete RH Upper Post Covering
981210719 – Complete LH Upper Post Covering

Both parts would have to be manufactured by the factory so there would be a 6-8 week delay in obtaining the parts.

Best Regards Keith."

I'll be ordering a new pair.
