Any chance any of our American members could post their take on issues? That way all nations can get an idea of the actual issues on the ground in America rather than some media spun BS

You are joking, right?

I have many American friends, and their 'idea of the actual issues on the ground' range from "Biden is a commie in the pay of Antifa" to "Trump is a fascist and a Russian spy".

Unless there is clear upsetting conflict and abuse or issues surely any subject should be allowed to be discussed?

Everybody has an option to ignore and not read anything on here they don't want to. It is not compulsory and completely optional and wholly at your personal discretion. Apart from the mods that is

I like to learn more about all sorts of things so it is nice to be able to have the option to broaden my brain and learn more about more things. I like the diversity we have here and chose when to read such threads or not.

That isn’t the way this is heading

Coincidently, I watched this (One Flew Over....) last night, after signing off from SM.
I'd forgotten what a brilliant film this is. Utterly, utterly amazing
collection of talents that made it happen, from the director and
leading actors, to the actors in the non-speaking roles.
Which reminds me of a quote from the same actor, Jack Nicholson, in Easy Rider that sums up America even 50 later.

Swamp!

Could you suspend reality for a little while.
Stop. Clear your mind. Relax. Breathe deeply.
And imagine Jack Nicholson as President of
the United States.
There'd be parties in the White House so wild, JFK would spin in
his grave like a propeller. There'd be a procession of first ladies
emerging each morning, with wild bedroom hair.
Obviously he'd be a Democratic President and as a Republican,
could you sit across the negotiating table from Jack f**king
Nicholson and not give him any darned thing he wants.
Filling the VP slot might require a bit more thought.
Or maybe a bit less.
If he were still alive, Robin Williams would get my vote, because
he and Jack were great friends and nobody would ever be able to
play one off against the other.

Nuts to even contemplate you might say. However, if Arnie had been
born in the U.S. he might well have been President. We know that he
wanted the office. Badly.

That's a bizarrely heart-warming idea.

Thank you. I'm curious. In what way heart-warming and in what way bizarre?
I agree incidentally.
I believe Jack and Robin would both do the right thing and in doing so. Make character matter again.
At the same time, they'd shake things up. With Élan. With panache.

You answered your own question. :)

Heart-warming because it would be wonderful. Heart-warming in the way that It's a Wonderful Life is (apparently) heart-warming, Not sure I've seen it, mind you.
