Unusual 4200 side vents

Shiny balls aside how much Vintage Pack displeasure on this forum can be attributed to 'experts' stating the wing vents are nothing more than stuck on? Without actually knowing what they are talking about.

I don’t remember anyone saying that. I think it’s just subjective, for me they are pointless, not because they aren’t functional by design, I don’t know of they are or not, but simply because most cars don’t have them so they aren’t needed, which makes them purely a design feature, and in my opinion they look worse than cars without them.

The ones in the first post look better, but are still pointless. The body kit on the car in the first post also isn’t great!

Vintage pack was purely a set of design features. In some respects much like facelift features. Neccessary, no, pointless, maybe, desirable, each to their own. For the record I don't have vents. In case you were wondering.

I wouldn't disagree that opinions are subjective. Everyone has one (ref. Dirty Harry) but maybe better to at least have actual knowledge before expressing it. Unfortanately, such is the way of a forum, opinion can often be driven by a small minority, regardless of knowledge, and once established becomes fact thereafter.

Unfortunately, Ill informed comment on these vents started years ago with even RG at one point getting in on the "stuck on" BS. It reared it's ugly head again quite recently so perhaps you've missed the undertone.

I appreciate that, perhaps what I should have said is that whether they are stuck on or not is also somewhat irrelevant as they are clearly without function.

I honestly don't know if the issue with people saying they are stuck on is one of quality, or aftermarket, or the actual physical attachment method.

For me, they are purely visual, they serve no other purpose. Plenty of cars have fake grills (and other fake parts, very much including aero) that serve no purpose other than visuals, I own 2 myself - the Elise S1 has grills on the back where the reversing and fog light is, which are metal in front of fibreglass, no cooling holes etc. My family car is an F55 Mini Cooper S which has a plastic thing on the bonnet that looks like a vent, but is just a plastic thing.

For me, I couldn't care less if Maserati chose to literally stick them on or if they are screwed on, or if the wing is a different panel with a hole behind it, it's not a question of the quality of the fitment and perhaps that's why I haven't noticed anyone saying it before.

It's the purely visual appeal, as we agree, it's subjective.

According to the designer, during development, those grills did let hot air out of the engine bay but further development rendered them unnecessary. However, by then it was too late to update the styling so the car ended up with fake vents. Just a little bit of history.

We can't let the truth get in the way of a good story (or misconception). It is the 2020's after all, the decade of social media #facts! ;)
