ULEZ is expanding

All 4200 and presumably GS had 4 cats.
All of the ones I've had have had 4 cats.

To challenge TfL they'll require documents for proof:
  • A copy of the vehicle's V5C or non-UK equivalent
To prove your vehicle meets the ULEZ standards:
  • A letter from the vehicle manufacturer's homologation department stating the vehicle's Euro standard or a conformity certificate

There are actual differences between the euro 3 and euro 4 cars. 2 cats vs 4 cats.

Late 4200’s and all GS’ had what a commonly referred to as US style manifolds with the primary cats on the manifolds and secondies after the squish section. The older cars had all cats after the manifolds, these manifolds are referred to as Euro type. Any cars with the US style were built to Euro 4 standard but Maserati didn’t claim it when registering them, in stead leaving it as Euro3 until legally required in 2006 I believe it was. Some owners have had success in contacting Maserati UK (and others) to get the data corrected to Euro4 and some like mine have somehow been re-recorded in a block update it seems.

Not quite true, some early GS' (mine being one) had the euro style manifolds,.

Interesting thread, I have the EURO cats and am not compliant. Tried to discuss with DVLA but fell on deaf ears sadly.

Just don't call it a ULEV.

This all sounds like a nightmare, from here...moving house or selling a car?!?

Not true. There appears to be no rhyme or reason to the choice of manifold fitment - late 4200s and GranSports had a mixture of both types. I changed my US-spec manifolds for Euro spec - it's a very labour-intensive job which involves lifting the engine off the mounts on one side (I think!) and delivers little to no performance gain (see the exhaust thread I wrote years ago with documented changes and dyno comparisons before and after). I did it purely to avoid the US cats deteriorating and being sucked back into the engine. Euro manifolds are usually very expensive if you can find them. I lucked out and bought a pair for £200 delivered from somebody who had no idea what they were!

Just noticed how much these things are spreading. Before November this year, we could drive to Bristol airport from South Wales in any of our cars. Now we have to pay a further £9 ULEZ fee in addition to all the other motorist taxes - unless we take my wife’s MiTo.

I will remember this each time I let out an emission over the festive period. Brussels anyone?

Only if you drive through the very centre of Bristol, which would be a rather bizarre way of driving there from any direction to the airport?!?

We take the M49 from the bridge then the Portway along the gorge. I think this is where the ULEZ can get in the way. I may be wrong so any better route suggestion much appreciated.

You’re far better going on the motorway to Portbury then cross country. But you are right the ULEZ is only the very centre of town except for a long sliver up the gorge.
