Tyres (don't shoot me)

Hi all,

Time for a full set of tyres on my GTS.
I know there have been many threads on tyres but I am still not certain.

Are the Michelin PS4 still the most recommended? Has anyone else caught up? I'm not a racer, just want safety, long life (me and the tyre) and grip wet and dry. Don't need ultimate cornering ability or track use.

I've purchased 22mm spacers all round from Richard as I do think it looks better with them so will have those fitted at the same time then get the geometry done.

Are the std (285/35R20 and 245/35R30) the best size to go for?

Looking at the Michelin tyres on the usual sites the tyres seem to be available at different prices from the same suppliers but with different ratings (wet weather B and C for what seems the same tyre from the same supplier) could some kind sole (if these are the right choice for me) let me know exactly which tyre it is?

I don't mind spending the money for the best tyres but no point spending extra if not needed.

With the spacers, do I need to quote any special settings for the geometry?

Thanks all,

Michael

Are you sure you’re comparing like for like. There’s a PS4 and a PS4s. The older designs were PS3 and Pilot Super Sport.

In my opinion Michelin pilot sport 4S (the S is important) are still the best out there for an all round tyre and for longevity.
The sizes are 245/35/20 and 285/35/20

The different codes and prices for seemingly the same tyre are manufacture specific tyres. K=Ferrari, MO =Mercedes etc... It could be a compound tweek, or could even be slightly less tread on the tyre from new.

Personally I go for the ones without the manufacturer code. As they seem to have better wet weather grip for some reason. As long they are XL load rated.

As long as it’s not Pirelli, genuinely is something strange with P zero’s on this car, and that they are top end Michelin, you’ll be fine.

Think I have 4s on my rears and whatever their predecessor was on the front: as for the manufacturer code, Ferrari etx, I’d say this is snake oil, happy to be corrected but truly the what is the difference?

Manufacturer code does make a difference for example Mercedes spec usually has a significantly softer sidewall than the Audi spec in the same tyre.

Can't see the PS4 Sports 4S on Costco - this is a minefield, too much choice, should be like Soviet Union - one choice. Once wasted an entire lunchtime going from shop to shop comparing inkjet cartridges, sod that.

285/35/19's I need.....

fair point and noted. I couldn’t even tell you exact spec I have on mine, it’s Saturday night lol. But having owned the car for nearly 5 years I did remove the p zero’s first chance I had.
I never jump on a band wagon but it’s was strange how they behave on the GT, possibly due to the weird geometry setup we all know about. I have no idea?

I've just picked up a new set of PS4s (still need to get them fitted so no idea if any good yet) but I managed to find some that didn't have a manufacture mark on black circles, there certainly wasn't a Maserati derivative.

You won't regret it.

I think Michelin own Blackcircles, it's worth comparing the cost on there before buying, last time I bought tyres, I couldn't find cheaper Michelins.

Just had Blackcircles fit 2 rear PS4S on my GTS for £490 all inclusive of home fitting. So far I’m liking them !

Hi all,

Just purchased a full set (4) of the Michelin PS4S for a pretty good price - £880 all inclusive. Being fitted on Saturday morning and they will fit the 22mm H&R spacers I purchased at the same time (seeing as all the wheels will be off the car anyway). I have been asked to supply the torque settings for the spacers to the hubs - anyone know what this should be?

I don't know but a call to H&R will be able to tell you

I suggest you get the wheel alignment & geo done at the same time, particularly when spacers are being fitted, as you could well suffer from uneven tyre wear of your lovely new rubber if not

I used the same settings as specified for the wheels as the spacers were being attached using those fixing and threads. I went back after 100 miles or so to have them checked.

Good shout getting tyre fitting included with blackcircles as I'm having a nightmare getting places to fit them as I just got them delivered to my home :(. National originally said the machine might warp the wheel so wouldn't do them hence me ordering them online but I'm now feeling they just didn't want the risk of damaging the rims as I'm 99.9999% sure the Stradale wheels are no different to anything else out there.

Had the fronts changed to PS4S as well and I can’t believe the difference v the previous P Zeros. Feels like the car is so more stable and balanced. Truly remarkable as I never raised tyres could have such an effect.

PS4S being fitted as we speak! Spacers being fitted and the same time and full geometry adjustment. Should be a good journey home!

National tyres will not fit customer supplied tires anymore, new policy, Its becoming more of a struggle to find places that will fit tires that they did not supply
