Tyre Type and Wheel Size options (again)

A 19" ghibli front wheel has an offset of 44 and a QP is 52 so ghibli wheel will stick outwards by 8mm more.
Rears are 40 & 50.

If you were fitting spacers you would fit 18mm & 22mm so the different offset won't be an issue.
There will be more ghibli wheels around and cheaper I imagine.

Re-winter tyres, where do you live?

Had I looked at this thread at the start, I would have suggested

  • Take the 19" Sottos off, put them in the shed, just in case.
  • Get rid of the old car with the 19" P-zeros on. (which I think you've done.)
  • Use the new car with the P-zeros on for now.
  • In late autumn buy 20" MPS4s and run those for the winter (they are very good on 95% of winter days, all but the coldest temps, when they become well above average, but below winter tyres)
  • If, after you've tried for a few months you are not happy with the above in winter, buy a cheap set of 19" wheels to put your Sottos on.
  • If happy with the MPS4s in winter sell everything else and clear out your shed.

Regarding your firm ride, It can change A LOT with tyre brand and Tyre pressures, so don't get hung up on wheel size. MPS4s sidewalls are quite a bit softer than P-zeros, so will ride softer. Winter tyres are even softer still. You can then adjust tyre pressures a little to suit. Don't get too bogged down with factory recommended pressures, adjust to your taste, for handling, ride, tyre wear, time of year etc .. It makes a lot of difference.

I am making progress.....

DONE: take the R19 Sottos off the 4.2 and put on the P-zeros so that WBAC get those
DONE: buy four new R19 rims in the autumn and put the which already have Sottos on them: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324469671430
(which is good as I also have two good 19in Sottos in the garage)

TO DO:
I really must get the Pzeros (two newish, two oldish) off the new QPV asap.
So:
  • keep the existing 20in rims and buy some decent 20in tyres (and try to sell the two good p zeros)
or:
  • try to sell the existing 20in rims (with tyres)
    • buy new (20in GT S) ones (with or without decent tyres)
    • buy new 19in rims (might be more comfy) and just buy 3 new GY Eagles (I already have one)
Thanks for listening....

(edited for typos)

I’d consider the 19” Sottozero for mine if they are full of tread still. I live in Scotland. Enough said...

I’d keep the Pzero on the 20s for now, they are fine when warmed and the roads are not greasy, their problem is they take too long to warm if the temperature is colder and the roads damp, that’s why the MP4ss work better for many. But once warm, the Pzero are actually probably more sticky. Provided the new and old Pzero are on the same axle, you can change progressively without too much issue. I have Kumho on the back and Dunlop on the front of my QP and it’s fine. I will change over time but for now, no issues.

Forget the 19 vs 20 thing, 20 look better, end of story. If you want a better ride, buy a Jaguar.

Sorry , I cant have been clear - I'm holding onto the 19in Sottozeros (and have just bought some more) - they are THE PRECIOUS!!!!

I cannot abide the back-end twitching (steady on) of the Pzeros - they have to go! But maybe I can put Michelins just on the rears for now then.

I have heard good things about Kumho, but I don't think I could live with "cum hoe" written on all four corners of my car. It's bad enough that any new Hitachi power tools I buy now say "hello cocky!" on them.

This is a gts wheel.

Have a look at 19" ghibli wheels. The pcd is the same and the offset not far off. I was going to fit 20" ones until mine came up for sale.

I can second this as brand new Ghibli wheels fitted right onto a Levante.
PITA is that 20" levante do NOT fit my 2006 QP. Suspect the different bolts might be needed ad PCD is the same

As long as they have the holes in the back to take the disc bolts.

This is worrying, as I have just bought some wheels off a 2006 QP to go on my 2009 QP. Does this mean that they won't fit?
Mark
The QP to QP (as @Zep reports) are the same. Guessing the facelift QP still has the ancient mechanical handbrake.

The facelift has an 'electronic parking brake' with mechanical servos in the swimming pool area under the boot liner.

This feature was prototyped on the 3200. Mine came with anchovy shoal under boot carpet in fossilised format. The electronic parking brake motor may have been tested in the boot release servo operated by the stuck-shut switch inside the glove box. The 60watt bulb fitted did it's best to keep dry the switch contacts while burning the fingers of nosy driver who wondered why lights was shining out of the closed glove box.

Is this an event where I pay for the privilege of thrashing my MC-Strad around the circuit, eating its P Zero's in the process, so then have to buy another set?!
