Two year service due

Hi my Granturismo Sport MC Shift is due for its two year service ,on the last one the following was changed
Engine oil
Oil & air filter
Large & small aux belts
Pollen filter
Brake fluid & gear oil

The car is a 2011 plate & has only done a further 7k since last service in Dec 2016 & currently has just over 20k on the clock, so do any of the above need doing again. I would imagine engine & oil filter is a must do?
Yet a main dealer who hasn't even seen the car reckons it needs the lambda sensor changed

There are no issues with the car suggesting this needs doing, but I was still quoted over £2k
Kind regards
Dean

Hi Dean. The two-year service is the biggie, I think, correct? From memory, I was quoted around £2.4k by a main dealer, so I went to [forum sponsor] Christian Lewis, near Bedford, who did a cracking job for a fraction of the price. They even lent me a car for the day while they did it.

Anyway, my suggestion would be to get a quote from an indie, who will do at least as good a job and for a lot less cash, And they'll put a perfectly acceptable stamp in your service book, too.

Where in the country are you based?

Hi there, thanks for the prompt reply , I live in Penrith Cumbria in the Lake District, so my choice of local main dealer or indie are a bit limited. My last service was done by a indie in Loughborough but I may have found a garage a bit closer to home ,who claim they can service & mot for just over £1k thanks again & take care Dean

I recommend Marios at Autoshield Maserati in South Manchester. He has customers from far and wide who leave their cars with him for service and repairs. He is closer to you than Loughborough. Handy for the tram to Piccadilly and train home also. He looks after my Gransport and I highly recommend him.

@Lavazza is up that neck of the woods as well. Extremely beautiful, but a long drive to a 'known' indie.

The 4 year service has the Lambda sensor change, the 2 year service is the samll one with oil and filter changes. I wouldn't get the sensors changed as it's got so little mileage on. I'd second Marios Manchester as being your best bet. They'll do a better job than your main stealer and TBH at 2011 a main dealer stamp isn't going to add hundreds of pounds to your sale price like it would on a 2 year old car, no disrespect meant by that either.

Ah, you're right: it's a 24-month service schedule alternating minor and major. In that case, >£2k is 3x what an indie would charge.

I'm another 45 mins away from civilization than Penrith. I've used Autoshield in Manchester. Pricing is reasonable. It's about 3.5 miles from the city.
Happy to keep in touch, I'm near Loweswater in the National Park.

I had my service done by Parks Maserati in Glasgow for a reasonable price. I played them off against Graypaul Edinburgh and PK Supercars. In the end, I just wanted a main dealer stamp as the car is new enough to merit keeping that up to date. From memory, it was the 4 year service and I told them not to do lambda sensors or the carbon canister as the car had about 12k miles on it and neither should need replaced at such low mileage - it's just the usual Maserati tax being applied. You've got Bowker nearby and of course you can pop up to God's country too!

Thanks to you all for your help, just waiting for local indie to confirm they have the software
On another topic which trickle charger would you recommend, I've emailed Ctek but they have not yet replied
Am I right in thinking that the Ctek model is the one Maserati main dealers sell
Thanks again

Its the Ctek that is about £70 you need. The cheaper ones are not for our cars.

Hi i have a 64 plate quatraporte bought from Garypaul maserati nottingham in feb 2018
its currently due a service ( was told its the 4th service)
was wondering if anyone can recommend any local indie in and around Birmingham
also by getting it done from an indie does this affect the 2 year manufacturer approved warranty i have

You need the MXS 5.0 model, not the 3.8

Don’t be afraid of asking the MD to price match an indie quote. I did recently and got them to within £100, plus I had a Quattroporte for a week as I had ‘work commitments’.. I wanted a dealer stamp in the book for this one and the warranty was about to expire. Interestingly there certainly wasn’t a 3x difference in price in the first place for a ‘big’ service. That said I’ll most likely use an indie next time, I’ll just have to be organised sorting it out.

Migliore Cars in Bromsgrove are top notch in my experience. Don't know regarding the warranty though.

My understanding is that under "block exemption rules" the warranty is preserved by whoever services the vehicle so long as they use only main dealer (genuine) supplied parts AND the service is carried out to the manufacturer's schedule of items.

So going to an indy, you will have to ensure he only uses official Maserati parts and sticks to the manufacturer schedule of items in the service. You can see the schedule in the service book (usually).

It follows that in this case, any saving with an indy will be from a reduced labour rate versus the main dealer labour rate. Ask your main dealervthe labour time and labour rate. Do the same with the indy and them decide. But make sure you compare like-for-like as Main Dealer prices usually are VAT inclusive where the indy prices are usually VAT exclusive.
