Tube near battery ??

Hi Guys, whilst prepping my car for the next concours, I had the boot lining removed and noticed this clear tube near the battery.
Does anyone know where it should be connected to?

Its the vent pipe for the battery. Look for a little tube sticking out from either the side about an inch down or top of the battery. It may be tucked away under a moulding on the battery. When you find it the clear tube should just push on to fit. It vents the gases created during recharge to outside air.

You dont need them on cars with the battery under the bonnet but in an enclosed space like the boot it can cause a problem.

The picture below should help you. Its not a Maserati battery but the vent tube on the battery is circled. Most batteries they are about half way across on the short sides. There can be one on each side with a bung in one of them.

The Bosch should have outlet holes on both sides of the battery with bungs in & you would remove the respective bung to where your breather pipe is located in the car

As Stuart says, it's a vent for the gas (hydrogen) from the battery. It's quiet important so no smoking please...

Hello everyone !
I know this is an old thread, but it fits perfectly with what I noticed during a recent battery replacement.

When I removed the old battery (probably installed by the previous owner), I noticed that it wasn't connected to any vent tube. One of the battery's two vent ports was sealed with the factory plug, while the other was simply left open and wasn't connected to anything.

Here is a picture of my new battery installation:





Is the highlighted rubber fitting supposed to be the battery vent connection as described into the maserati spare parts diagram?




Finally, my main question: how important is it to connect the battery vent tube? Since the previous battery was apparently installed without one, is it acceptable to leave the new battery the same way, or should I definitely connect the vent tube?

The old battery in my MC was not vented at all, both bungs in - the replacement was correctly vented.

I’ll try to have it vented through the hole as described in the battery diagram.

But I’m afraid that’s not the only thing I need to get vented, as a few days ago the trunk and the car interior started to smell of gasoline.

I’ll look through the forum for similar issues and open a new post if necessary.

Yes, and they are surprisingly cheap to replace for a Maserati! Also, there is a silly plastic corrugated pipe that runs from partway down the filler neck down to the tank/vent. It splits. As me how I know!
