Trapped water

As title...

I apparently have a significant amount of water trapped in what sounds like the passenger door or somewhere under the footwell? I can hear it sloshing around on sudden acceleration and braking. I have been able to hear it for a couple of days and it was much worse this morning after standing in heavy rain overnight which make me think it's getting in from above. There are no obvious faults in the window seal or any blocked drain holes near the windscreen.

I currently have multiple dash warning lights, parking brake, abs, msp and suspension which I think is an unrelated battery issue a new one is on order. But the idea of trapped water and electrical faults has me a bit worried that something is fried!

If it's not the door where else could it be collecting and how is it getting there? Is it near any ecu in those areas?

Oh it's a 4.2 gt.

Help!

I'd have said aircon drain, but I can't recall if there's an ECU cubby in the passenger footwell, so maybe talking more **** than usual

Opening the door should tell you if there any in there. Doors do get water in them, there’s drains at the bottom to let any out.

Not familiar with the GT but the heater box can fill with water if the drain is blocked, it’ll fill to the point it overflows into the cabin on 4200 and many other cars

I've opened the door and tried swinging it about and couldn't hear anything but then i can't hear it on cornering either it's only front to back movement i can hear. Too dark to see much when i got in tonight, I'll have a proper look tomorrow.

And deffo not the boot had water in there before but I checked and bone dry now.

I had water collect in the spare wheel well of one of my 3200’s and one of my QP’s, but not heard of it in the GranTurismo.

For sure GTs can get water in the boot, which ends up in the battery tray / EPB mechanism <bzzzz>

The sloshing under braking makes me think it might be water in a box section such as the sills. Not sure if that is possible on a GT.

I had exactly this on a car some while back. Not a Maserati though, think it might have been a Merc. There were some grommets in the underside and when I prised one out I got about a pint out. I think one of the scuttle drain lines was blocked but can’t really remember now.

I've pulled a couple of plugs out of the bottom of the door and nothing happened. Also all the electrics in that door are working fine including the puddle light which if it was under water it probably wouldn't be. Can probably rule out the door. So maybe sill.

Battery arrives on monday so I'll see then if that solves the electrical problems.

The car is in the garage in 2 weeks for other bits so i might have to wait until then to find out. I'll have a few more days driving around in a fish tank!

I had the same but it all came pissing out when I opened the driver's door (at the front end of the door, but needed to be on a slight hill). Only happened when left outside during periods of perpetual rain.

Is it sloshing, or maybe the cat/exhaust? I've had that before. It only manifested itself front to back.

I think Allan might be spot on there. Have you been pootling?

If it is a high rev blast for an hour should sort it out

Would you really hear water in the CAT from inside the cabin ?
My vote would be water upfront somewhere.

Do have a look in the 'basement' section of the boot. I never had it but was told once by a specialist to check in there for a water-related cause of a persistent park-brake light.

Good luck, and report back.
