I am looking to my mechanic friends for some real world advice.
My BMW i8 is making a whirring noise when running the electric motor, I've replaced a cv axle that was clicking and had a split gaiter which has helped but I think the transmission would benefit from an oil change as it's now done 75k miles.
BMW iTF 75W-80 GL-4 is the OEM oil but under license with BMW and they want £150 a litre !!!
In your experience would any quality 75W-80 GL-4 transmission oil be a suitable alternative?
I've contacted Millers, Liqi Moly, with little help.
Westway Oils state the BMW product has a different additive package making it a dielectric fluid for use in Electric Motors, what are they adding, liquid gold???
I know the answer really and probably need to just get on with it but I wasn't expecting Maserati tax on BMW oil.

Worth talking to Opie Oils. I’ve always found them both helpful and highly knowledgeable about all things lubricant related
