Traffic light cameras ....... news to me.

So this morning at silly o’clock, I drove my daughter to the Eurostar at St Pancras.
On the North Circular whilst avoiding the obvious speed cameras I went over a Green Light only to have the camera flash me (I was doing 45mph in the 40mph limit).

Very confused I went to Google and discovered that many Red Light Cameras double up as Speed Cameras !!!!!

I had no idea this was “a thing” so thought I would share this nugget of info in case others are as clueless as me.

Now expecting the standard 3 points though the post or possibly an awareness course as I have not been on one for a while.

Now where to drown my sorrows ?
Ah, the SM anniversary drinks :p

That is the first I have heard of the doubling as speed cameras. Were there markings in the road?

But if you were only doing 45mph I wouldn't worry .... that speed is below the normal level for prosecution. (Fingers crossed that i am not proved wrong!)

Sneaky bu99ers, there does seem to be a lack of fixed speed cameras here they rely on a man in a van technology

Lots of urban myths about but I always thought most thresholds were 10% over + 1 - so 45 in a 40 is right on the cusp.

I can't recall seeing one in Dubs, but the Gardaí have put out 130 (I think) marked vans you can see a mile off in the worst areas for accidents, which means they're all in Dublin.

Yup they reprogrammed them to double up as speed cameras quite a few years ago now

I was told on my SAC that it's 10% speedo error +1% the 1% at the discretion of the relevant Chief Constable where the offence took place, and they've been told not to exercise that discretion. This was a few years ago mind.

Confirmed!!............It's caught quite a few there. It also collars you if you jump the lights. I have seen at least 5 people get flashed for various reasons.

Ok I have just reviewed my dashcam and what felt like 45mph was actually 54mph

In my defence your honour it was 4.35am on an empty duel carriageway ;)

oh well, I suspect thats my clean licence gone for another 3/5 years

The vans are often out but as you say they are obvious, tend to park in the same spots and every other motorists flashes you to tell you where they are

Thanks for posting this, I didn't know this was a common practice. I will be a little more vigilant when that tempting green light is on now!
