TPMS Fun Pt2

TPMS fun and frolics again, I last posted up on this here about a year ago: https://www.sportsmaserati.com/inde...ng-sensor-gremlins-qpv-gts.30147/#post-733704

Low-inflation warning flagged up last weekend - pulled over, pumped up and checked with my own tyre pressure gauge and re-calibrated... warning light comes on again. Turns out I over inflated slightly, so I let some air out - recalibrated, warning light comes on once more. I'll re-check the pressures over the weekend, but I suspect recalibration isn't going to help this time.

No doubt the cold weather is having an affect yet again, not on the main battery itself, but the tyre valves themselves and their own internal batteries (from what I understand) which are susceptible to both age and low temperature. Any ideas how much these are to replace?

A better question would be can you unplug the ecu and disable the warning. They are a monumental pain and are pretty pointless imo.
Glad I do not have them.

These worked for me - aftermarket sensors - £119 for 4 off.

Note they are Pre-programmed for GranCabrio sport 2011 - 2015 but many other pre-programmed Maserati models available from the seller.

Ensure the removed sensors are away from the car when you calibrate.

Soak the valve base the day before removal - with penetrating oil, likely the old metal stem sensors (typical 8 year battery life) will be seized and need to be drilled out.

One week on, and despite being out and about several times, the TPMS gremlins have gone away... for now. Will report back if/when that changes.

TPMS unavailable… sod. Pressing the overhead button to recalibrate neutralises the error… for a few seconds before the original warning comes back. My TPMS always seems to enjoying dicking around in the cold winter months.

Presumably one or more of my sensors needs replacement?

A further TPMS issue.
2015 Ghibli.
My dash shows 'failure' of the system, with the car/4 wheel graphic having vanished and the amber light on.
Local garage (main dealer but not Maserati) says I need to visit a specialist as they do not have the gear to assist/diagnose the problem.
I don't mind going to a main dealer, but the nearest is over 1.5 hours away, plus waiting etc., then that's best part of a day gone.
Are there any other options before I take that step ?

Cheers, Ian.

If you can find someone local who has a machine that will talk to it, that would be an option. Maybe @spkennyuk is near you?

We can switch off TPMS and proxy align on GT and QP. £80 end of problem and no more light.

Sounds like one of your sensor batteries has died.

you’ll need to plug it in to find out which.

or buy a set of 4 as mentioned earlier in this thread and get them changed at a local tyre place.

will probably be cheaper than the cost of fuel & specialist diagnosis. Unless you desperately want OE sensors.

when I replaced 2 of my sensors (2013 GT) - it didn’t need plugging in to recalibrate and recognise new sensors. (I bought an Autel AP200 code reader for £50 just in case)

Thanks JMS, but why would all four/TPM system show as "failing" on the dash if just one battery was down ?

Sorry I overlooked that part of your post.

like you, I couldn’t get the TPMS screen at all when a single sensor was out.

I have found with all ‘XXX failure’ messages, they disappear after a night on the battery conditioner, but I assume you have tried that.

We see it a lot. Shows as a wheel sensor flat battery….£400 replace all 4, error persists. It’s the TPMS ecu and you can’t get them. There is a repair service so another £500. By this time your fed up with TPMS, £80 have us remove it.

Ah.
I see now.
But my car is used regularly and the charging (according to the dash) is good.
