Tool Time Corner

By unpopular demand, I thought I would start a Tool Corner thread. For all those times when you got a new tool for a job in the workshop that made life so much easier.

I’m going to kick off with my CV joint puller. Makes taking them off on the car an absolute doddle.

Zep, so my Renault 14 needs a new CV gaiter, method is a greased cone that looks hard work, will your tool work? What are the hire rates?

For me, its the Dremel, which i know specifically isnt A tool, but wisest £90 iv spent on a tool.
Recently acquired an Impact drill also, which is proving well worth the money for bolts and wheel nuts etc. Once loosened, spin them off and on so much quicker.

Greased cone is a PITA (literally for some people :p), mine will do it no problem. Hire is free, but they are £20 at screwfix!

Nice thread Zep.....great idea. If we can enlighten each other to save time and a LOT of hassle sometimes this has to be a great idea.

I'm sure like many the cordless impact wrench is a big time saver. Bought a decent DeWalt hogring one which is spot on.

I.bought a mini spanner ratchet bit set years ago when replacing a sensor down the bottom back of an E39 540 engine years back which saved an alleged 6 hours stripping all the intake manifold etc.off. I've used it loads o we the years in all this tiny spaces you just can't get to.easily. often allows you to get to screws or bolts you would often have to take a load of other stuff off or out the way first.

I bought this one:

I think you can buy the spanner on its own and also a cheaper similar set with half bit half sockets.

As Matt mentioned various trim removal tools. Got a nice Snap On one some random tech left in my car once behind a trim panel I found!

Most important item in my garage has been a digital camera andnowmy phone. Keeping photos of what the carer bike looked like before I started dismantling is invaluable.

After that, a simple spring puller ... no more skinned knuckles pulling exhaust springs.

A 1 metre SnapOn breaker bar has solved a few problems as well :)

Also just got this mini ratchet set. And idea I stole from @Mr S when we did his manifold. A solid set of tools and easy to use where space is a problem.

So many tools over the years to get around tough jobs on cars. This is the latest, combining a shifting spanner with mole grips

I don’t care if it is not Bacho quality if it works on my present issue but it looks better than cheese even if it is stamped China...

Loz, I don't believe you have never worked on the dining table? Children of the 60's mate, standard practice, the only thing is now is it generally isn't a £2 step through bought off a mate! Oh and the Mrs has a thing about table cloths.....

from experience, GT85 is considered a much better product than WD40. Leaves a thin film of PTFE to help protect the part
