To Strad or not to Strad....

What would make you choose the Strad from the off? What makes it more 'special'?

I'm trying to use man-math to justify the extra £20-30k!

3 Scoops in the bonnet would be worth 20k to me. Plus more aggressive wings, Different Exhaust (both cosmetics and sound). Race mode...etc
You need to drive them

I had the same issue as it is not just simply 30k difference. It is 30k or 60k. When it is 60k/90k or 90k/120k the difference is less & agree the Strad of course would make more sense.

When it is 30k/60k it is simply twice the price. Is it twice as good....of course not.

I agree with Adam in that the Strad could easily make sense if looking fresh at a 60k Strad over a nice newer 2010 or later GT S 4.7 MC for 40k. If you already have a 30k 2008 GT S 4.7.MC it is hard to justify adding 30k on top to get into a Strad. It isn't twice as good.

.. and you'll probably sell the strad for a similar amount to the purchase cost, assuming putting reasonable miles on it.

I think you have judge it by rate of depreciation especially with the cost of money at all time lows - be it the actual interest cost or opportunity cost depending on personal circumstance.
Stradales in general will depreciate at a slower rate so it’s debatable if the £20k saving you might trouser is actually a saving at all when measured over a set period.

I probably got in to my Strad at the higher end of the market but is that wrong all things considered? For me the spec was perfect, the special lava paint, the carbon, the contrasting stitching on dark leather / alcantara and that all important race mode which just keeps you grinning - even after you park her up.

Sport, MC, Stradale, whatever? At the end of the day they are all great cars, we are incredibly privileged to be driving them but have you ever heard a Stradale owner say he should have bought the cheaper one????

Enjoy!

So the 4-seater Strad has 460hp but my 2013 GT Sport has 433hp. Presumably it’s just different mapping? Has anyone sourced the Strad map? I know it’s only a difference of 27 horses but more is always better.

From what I understand, everything programmable in the car has strad specific maps. Engine, box, brakes etc. It's a sum of parts. A strad ecu map in a Gt would probably do almost nothing alone.

Good question though!

I know that some people have applied a Ferrari gearbox map to increase the speed of changes, so I therefore presume that each map (engine, gearbox etc) is discrete?

There are different parts. Many of them have DLC (Diamond like coating).

For example the camshafts are a different part number and you need an engine number to order them.

GT Sport and four seater Stradale have the same engine - 460PS or 454BHP.

Two seater Stradale had 450PS.

GTS had 440PS and then 450PS in last model year (2012).

GTS Auto had 440PS.

Further back I think the engine gave a tad less in the QPV but not owned one of those.

Not a lot in it really so don't get bothered by it!

Does the MC Auto Shift and MC shift have the same rev limit? If not, this would likely be responsible for some of the higher outputs.

I was told by my MD that the two seaters were more of a skunkworks type project, blueprinted engines, and hand tweaked with the bits they had at hand. I would therefore expect outputs to vary quite a bit.

Unfortunately this also makes for difficult parts replacement, as the part numbers are all the same, but the actual parts fitted were sourced and tweaked more dynamically.
