Tinnitus

Just catching up on the thread as have been busy beavering away.

Sorry to see in a way that it has been so active with so many sufferers of tinnitus but also other related and unrelated ailments. Let's get it all on the table nice and open the we can deal with it all. Oh....we all did

I have found an ENT specialist and have an appt Monday morning at Hatfield One. Let's see what he says to kick off with.

I hang on to the hope as others have mentioned about a noise cancelling style option. Certainly seems possible and plausible for some depending on the individuals symptoms.
I bought these noise cancelling over-ear headphones for flights and walks. Simply stunning - blocks out virtually all noise even when not listening to music. I dont suffer tinnitus but I wore them on a long haul 'red eye' flight from San Francisco and heard zilch - and I wasnt playing music. Just immersed in complete silence for a relaxing overnight

Beat Bose at their game. Simply superb. 30hr playtime on single charge. 10mins USB C cable at airport gives 5hrs playing time.

Thinking about this in more depth, I've regaled this story before, basically I was left as a single father with five young kids, managed to find a WFH job with Sun Microsystems, God Bless 'em, and got used to kids not (old enough for nursery - this was Scotland, start a year later) running around me with multiple tellies on, general banging about, arguing, etc, etc.

So now they're grown up I can't stand silence and nothing going on, I'm WFH today, I have a movie top right while I work, not concentrating on it, and the telly on with news on, I'm wondering if that's been my coping mechanism if I do have Tinnitus....?

You can easily check to see if you're suffering from tinnitus. Turn off anything that's making noise and sit quitely for several minutes. If you hear ringing in your ears, you have tinnitus.

Well, I had my initial consultation this morning. All went smooth and efficiently so a thumbs up for the One Hatfield so far. The ENT consultant did some quick basic tests then booked a hearing test also an MRI scan. I had the MRI scan done there and then immediately and have a hearing test booked for next Tuesday. Then a follow up consultation next Thursday.

We will see what happens.

I bought these noise cancelling over-ear headphones .....

Slightly nicer link: https://www.whathifi.com/sony/wh-1000xm3/review

I have had the Bose QC3 NC headphones for years, which are excellent.
Only issues are:
  • not wireless unlike some more modern versions
  • have a little detachable wireless battery that needs a special charger
  • fold flat the wrong way round (if you want to fold them flat across your collarbones, you have to reverse L & R, which is just really dumb)

I had mine on Friday £500 lighter now for 45 mins!! booked in for hearing test and pressure test. Also had a camera up both nostrils and through my Eustachian tubes..............Not something I would look forward to!! not so good news was that they were all looking good and clear. Sounds strange but I was hoping they would find a problem there!

Good to see it moving forward. My policy is a lower monthly cost but we pay the first £500 excess on any claim but only once per person per year. I expect I am over that £500 already!

I know what you mean about finding something as you want there to be a problem causing it that hopefully they can fix. If they find nothing then good and bad.

Very nice. I went for these a while back as Amazon did a silly special price as think they were discontinuing the 2.0 and bring out the 3.0. They can be wired as well as wireless which is nice. Been very impressed with them.

Absolutely!! I had all the symptoms for ETD which he also agreed, and there is a quick resolution for this that has quite a good success rate, failing that, surgery but still a means to an end!! Now he was thinking grommets which would be even better but I am pessimistic that this is the answer...............Please keep us posted on your progress Dean.

I'm usually on a plane 2-3 times a week, and I have the Bose QuiteComfort 35 wireless noise cancelling headset. They are very comfortable and work really well.

I'm Alan Partridge and I absolutely insist on presenting with a Sennheiser 152 G2 Headset microphone. If any of you are in the market for a headset mic – aerobic instructors, business leaders, the people at the market who sell chipped crockery – let me give you a piece of solid gold advice. This is the Piat d’Or of headset mics. Used by the likes of Mr Motivator and – weirdly – Terry Nutkins, the Sennheiser is the official headmic for both product demonstrators at the Ideal Home Exhibition and Gabrielle.

I’m not going to go on about headmics, and bulk out my word count with technical details – other than to say it’s lightweight but packs a punch. And its supercardioid microphone produces crystal clear sound.

Some of the lesser headmics out there – I’m thinking of your Radnor CL-07s – muffle certain consonants so that an S sounds like an F. I gave a version of this presentation to the children of a local primary school and caused uproar by repeatedly using the phrase ‘You can’t teach your grandmother to suck eggs.'

So avoid the Radnor range. That’s my advice.

I would also advise you to avoid wearing a headmic on one side of your head and a Bluetooth mobile phone headset on the other. Because during the same presentation, Carol called – she was angry that I’d cancelled a long-standing direct debit, suspending her subscription to BBC Good Food magazine. And the sound from the call vibrated through my head and was picked up on mic.

LOL.... I've got some out of hours remote work to do then I'll join you in a double whisky to send me to sleep
Me too, fecking MQ issue, flightplans not going to Pilot's Portal, planes might not take off or might go the wrong way whatever that means. They've got a manual back up system and they know it, just causing trouble and unwittingly contributing to my QP new clutch fund!

Had the hearing test today and appt with audiologist. Have a physio assessment on Thurs to assess the pains in my neck, back and left arm. Then follow up consultation with ENT consultant.

Would be nice to have some news or movement forward this week but prepared for a longish road.

You know what scares me, I'm pretty unfit, had heart issues, pancreas/spleen problem, but I'm 58 and I feel fine, bit overweight, but no aches or pains, I'm aware I'm slower at doing stuff (like getting out of bed lol!) but I eat, breathe, wee and poo normally (mostly - got constipated but lets not go there) but...

Mates, ex-mates etc younger and fitter than me are seemingly dropping like flies, some struck with cancer which you cant legislate for, butt many just going in their sleep and to be honest it's usually heart, Northern England diet in the 70's maybe, I dunno

Life is great when you are 20, not when approaching 60, tho life the pressures now on our kids at 20-30 make things just as hard for them...

I know what you mean. I'm reasonably fit and healthy. Could be better but could be much worse.

I'm 47 and know I can and should feel.mich better. The last 5 years has had so many ups/downs and mental/physical/financial pressures I think it has taken its toll. I'm determined to ease all this and get to feeling better. I'm tired. I've worked my socks off for nearly 30 years and need some easier time now.

Luckily I absorb stress and pressure well but I don't think it is a bad thing. I'm convinced much of my current situation can be eased and resolved with a few key changes.

The audiologist said it sounds funny and many don't agree or believe but many examples of Tinnitus are stress related. I agreed and do agree. I think many ailments and diseases even come cancers are caused or amplified by stress. The modern fast, complex and busy way of life we have found ourselves in is not a great thing for the human body or mind to deal with.

You leave a steak to rest to let it relax after it is stressed when cooked. I don't think we are.too dissimilar.

I first felt this when at DVLA in Swansea, not relevant but helps describe the situation.

I cant remember how or what but some guy lent me a CD about relaxation, tuning in etc, lots of hippy shiiit but I took bits out of it and the one thing I still do is this (this is from 12 years ago)

I arrange the the pillows in bed in a sort of ramp, and imagine I'm in a river, warm water, body under water and head above and there's water flowing slowly down over the back of my head and shoulders it's flowing down and I suppose the analogy is its taking your woes away and, I know, it sounds like a load of old ******** but it does work for me. and I'm Mr. Sceptical.

God I can't believe I posted that!

Stress is the worst thing ever and is a silent killer as most of us don’t even know we are stressed and it will literally rob you of your health.

I think to an extent we create our own stress in life by striving to do better, earn more, get a better car r house, impress neighbors or friends on social media who we don’t even like!

Just watched two programs on the holocaust and boy do I feel like I have no reason to complain if something doesn’t go my way and if life throws me a curveball. What we need to do is find a work-life balance where we prioritize life and don’t be a slave to any job or anyone else and for all of our family needs and own needs to a greater extent to maintain our own mental wellbeing by doing something we love like running or a hobby etc..

Rockits address the underlying issues ie health by taking time to relax more, delegate more, spend more time with your kids/family, eat healthier, hydrate and sleep more. Then see how your tinnitus is.... I bet it is gone....
